Sita OHANESSIAN

1932 - 2023

was born on April 22, 1932 in Baghdad, Iraq and passed away on December 20, 2023. She lived in Baghdad until 1994 when she moved to Edina, MN leaving her beloved Baghdad between the two Iraqi wars. Sita graduated from the American High School for Girls and attended the Fine Arts Institute in Baghdad, earning a diploma in music. Highly educated, she was fluent in many languages including Armenian, Arabic, French and English. A gifted pianist, she deferred to her sister Beatrice Ohanessian who was a well-known concert pianist throughout Europe and the Middle East. Sita worked in office administration for various oil companies, including the Iraq Petroleum Co., for much of her career. She completed her career by working for seven years until 1990 for the United Nations Development Program. She also held a part time job at Mervyn's after her arrival in the United States. Deeply committed to her Armenian religion and family, Sita lived a faithful life, living in her family home to care for her parents until they passed away and then until she later came to the United States. She was also deeply involved with the St. Sahag Armenian Church in St. Paul. Sita was preceded in death by her parents, Ohaness Ohanessian and Serpouhi (Ohanessian) Ohanessian, her brother Arsham, who was a successful businessman and well known throughout the Twin Cities community, her sister-in-law Charlotte (Aghajaniam), and her sister Beatrice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the St. Sahag Armenian Church, 203 Howell Street N., St. Paul, MN 55104, or to the Wealshire of Bloomington Fund, 10601 Lyndale Avenue S., Bloomington, MN 55420. Visitation will be held at St. Sahag Armenian Church beginning at Noon on Friday, December 29th, with the funeral following at 1 PM.
