Steven FJELLMAN Obituary

Steve went home to be with the Lord on March 1st, 2021. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lynette; children, Mark (Julie) Fjellman, Todd (Diem) Fjellman, Amy (Charlie) Barton; and grandchildren, Eric and Alexis, Erik and Matthew, Luis and Javier Barton. Steve loved his wife, children & their spouses so much. He absolutely adored his 6 grandchildren. We were blessed to have him in our lives. He is also survived by his brother, Jonathan (Linda) Fjellman; brothers-in-law, Glenn (Judy) Becklund and Donald Timmerman; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Vivian Fjellman; parents-in-law, Albert and Valborg Becklund; sister-in-law, Ruth Timmerman; and niece, Miranda Duskin. Steve was born in Minneapolis on July 5, 1947. At 14 years old, despite his claim to friends that he was not interested in girls yet, Lynette caught his eye. From then on, the two were an item and married 8 years later on April 25, 1970. Steve graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and became a wood/metal shop teacher at Folwell Junior High School in Minneapolis, where he had once been a student. He taught there for 10 years. Even though he loved teaching, declining enrollment caused him to find a new career. He worked for many years at Honeywell, first in New Brighton and later in Golden Valley. He also worked at Medtronic, where he finally retired in 2011. Steve kept busy in retirement woodworking in his shop and gave much of his handiwork to friends and family. Steve was very active in his church, the Lakewood Salvation Army. He faithfully used his musical talents to serve God and touched many lives. He served as Sunday School superintendent, youth band leader, band chaplain, and was 1st chair cornet player in the band for many years. Even after he could no longer play in the band, he still enjoyed listening to the band music. It touched him deeply. Steve and Lynette valued their family above all else. For 23 years, their children, spouses and grandchildren shared a large loft cabin at a resort in Crosslake for a week each summer. This week was filled with fishing, swimming, and playing games. Steve's most cherished memories are from those weeks the family spent together up at the lake. He took pride in teaching all the grandchildren how to fish and even how to clean the fish. He was a great fishing guide and made sure everyone was having the best time possible on and off the lake. He spent most nights the last few years looking through the many family photo albums and reminiscing about all the good times we shared. He always felt lucky to have such a great family. He will never be forgotten. The family would like to thank those at Tradition Assisted Living and Brookview for their care of Steve. Celebration of Life at LAKEWOOD SALVATION ARMY, (2080 Woodlyn Ave, Maplewood) at 11 AM Saturday, March 6th, with visitation one hour before. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Limited capacity service – Live streamed via church's Facebook page. www.kozlakradulovich.com 763-416-0016

I just learned of Steve's passing, and share the sadness of many that this warm, funny, loving, giving, and faith-filled man has joined his Mom and Dad in his Heavenly Home.
When I arrived on a Greyhound bus in Minneapolis in 1964, after my parents were transferred from Chicago to be officers at the Cedar Avenue Corps, it was the Fjellmans who picked me up, and drove me by Lake Nokomis. Spending a week at Camp Wonderland at Camp Lake , Wisconsin, I had come to MN a week later than the rest of my family. While I was not happy leaving my Chicago friends, I had to admit that MN was a beautiful state, with gracious, welcoming people. Stevie and his brother, Johnny, were 2 of the 1st Minnesotans I met!
Steve taught my brother, Mark, printing at Folwell, and always asked about his former student. In recent years, when a group of old friends met to reminisce, Steve collected and brought copies of old photographs to share, a symbol of his generosity and appreciation for heritage.
A musician, a comedian, a man of authentic, living faith, a devoted son, husband, father, grandpa, and friend to many, I can envision Steve on the banks of the Jordan with his cornet in one hand and his fishing pole in the other. May his beautiful family feel surrounded with support and prayers in this time of mourning.

My condolences. While I didn´t take shop class, I do fondly remember Mr. Fjellman when I ran into him in the hallways at Folwell. He touched many lives. May he Rest In Peace.
