Tanner Mommsen Obituary

Mommsen, Tanner - Age 20 Of Maple Grove Survived by his parents, Craig & Mary; sisters, Lenny and Reann; Grandparents, Stella Sroka and Curt & Ginny Mommsen; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. A private ceremony will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family in care of the funeral home, 230 13th Ave. NE, Mpls, MN 55413. The family will direct memorials to the Bridger Bowl Wilderness Fund. Tanner was a beautiful boy who enjoyed life. KAPALA-GLODEK 612-378-1331.

Tanner-

I first met you when we both attended East Middle School. I knew you from gym class and from being one of the most kind people I've met. Throughout high school, whenever I saw you in the halls you always had a smile on your face and in turn your smile made everyone around you appreciate you that much more. Your memory lives on in all of us, and I hope you are still smiling now.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tanner our Freshman year at Montana State University. In that time, I shared a lot of happiness with him, driving to Canada for a weekend, listening to stories he told about things he'd done with his buddies at home, beating Contra III on hard. He said that was an accomplishment worthy of going on a resume. I had a lot of fun with Tanner, and that's what I'll always remember about him.

Tanner holds, and will always hold, a very special place in my heart. He was such a genuine, inspirational, unmatched person. Our conversations were the best--I learned so much from him on so many levels. Tanner, Although I met you I know that we never said more than hello-but that's okay because I have heard so much about you both during your life and hereafter, and you seem like an amazing person with a huge heart for others. I want to thank you for being Brandon's best friend--I know that you often times had to lend an ear, a hand, some advice and who knows what else and that being a best friend is never easy-but it meant the world. I know this because I'm Katie's best bud. The thing that tears me up the most is knowing that for your sake and Brandon's, when Katie and Brandon get married someday, she'll get to have me up at the altar and he will have you only in spirit. I can't believe that it has been almost two weeks since this whole thing happened. My how the time goes. I would like to thank you for being such a great friend to everyone especially Brandon. You were always there to talk to him and cheer him up on his way back up to school. You were and still are his rock and listening ear. As for me, I would like to thank you for the 3 great years that I have known you and for all the great memories. You will always have a special place in my heart. I still remember when we first became great friends. It was at Wolf Ridge and you refused to wear snowshoes, it was a good idea until you sunk to your knees in the powder. Of course I had to give up one of my snowshoes for you, and we had to work as a team, leaning on each other to complete the course. That is how our friendship was from that point on, we were always side by side depending on one another. Whether it was the numerous hours we spent playing Mario Kart and Gran Turismo, or the road trip to get fireworks that ended with us in the ditch, the countless trips to Taco Bell and losing "undisclosed amounts" at Mystic Lake, and the hours we spent fishing this summer and not catching a damn thing, you were always by my side. Tanner you were my buddy, my pal, my sidekick and my partner in crime, but most importantly you are my best friend. We all love and miss you Tanner, but I know that you are here, still standing by my side.

I am so sorry of the loss of your dear son and brother. When I saw the photo in the paper my heart jumped and I felt such a sadness. I remember his handsome face popping up at my window on the senior floor at Wayzata High School. He would brighten my day with his wonderful smile and quiet presence. I remember teasing him about how much I liked his sisters. I told him I hoped to say the same about him one day.

Tanner never said a commonplace thing. He was uncommonly unique in every way. Tanner, we miss you.
