Tanner-
I first met you when we both attended East Middle School. I knew you from gym class and from being one of the most kind people I've met. Throughout high school, whenever I saw you in the halls you always had a smile on your face and in turn your smile made everyone around you appreciate you that much more. Your memory lives on in all of us, and I hope you are still smiling now.

I had the pleasure of meeting Tanner our Freshman year at Montana State University. In that time, I shared a lot of happiness with him, driving to Canada for a weekend, listening to stories he told about things he'd done with his buddies at home, beating Contra III on hard. He said that was an accomplishment worthy of going on a resume. I had a lot of fun with Tanner, and that's what I'll always remember about him.

Tanner holds, and will always hold, a very special place in my heart. He was such a genuine, inspirational, unmatched person. Our conversations were the best--I learned so much from him on so many levels. I will always remember the road trips, adventures, tornado day in memphis, birthday wishes, endless Om-teasing, champion of the universe competitions, and our "no-fibbing" approach to one another. Tanner, you know all the secrets now. You will be forever missed & forever in our hearts...thank you for everything. Love you, no fibbing.

Tanner, I will never forget all the awesome times that we had together between heart-shaped panacakes and fish night at Byerlys and you teaching me how to drive the maxima. It was a pleasure to help you hide the watsons girl in my garage. I will never forget rolling around in the leaves with you. You will always have a place in my heart. Rest peacefully Tanner.

The one thought that has helped me through the loss of my own baby Jonathan is that God takes our childen to make heaven beautiful for us and I know that every time the sun shines and we have a perfect summer day that this must be the most beautiful place because our children are there and we will see them again, until then we hold them in our hearts until we hold them in our arms in heaven.

Tanner, Although I met you I know that we never said more than hello-but that's okay because I have heard so much about you both during your life and hereafter, and you seem like an amazing person with a huge heart for others. I want to thank you for being Brandon's best friend--I know that you often times had to lend an ear, a hand, some advice and who knows what else and that being a best friend is never easy-but it meant the world. I know this because I'm Katie's best bud. The thing that tears me up the most is knowing that for your sake and Brandon's, when Katie and Brandon get married someday, she'll get to have me up at the altar and he will have you only in spirit. Please watch over the three of them, and I'll do my best down here :) Sleep sweet.

I can't believe that it has been almost two weeks since this whole thing happened. My how the time goes. I would like to thank you for being such a great friend to everyone especially Brandon. You were always there to talk to him and cheer him up on his way back up to school. You were and still are his rock and listening ear. As for me, I would like to thank you for the 3 great years that I have known you and for all the great memories. You will always have a special place in my heart. You would have been an amazing godfather and someday husband. Thanks for every encouraging word and beautiful smile. When I see a sunny blue sky, I will always be reminded of your bright blue eyes. I still remember when we first became great friends. It was at Wolf Ridge and you refused to wear snowshoes, it was a good idea until you sunk to your knees in the powder. Of course I had to give up one of my snowshoes for you, and we had to work as a team, leaning on each other to complete the course. That is how our friendship was from that point on, we were always side by side depending on one another. Whether it was the numerous hours we spent playing Mario Kart and Gran Turismo, or the road trip to get fireworks that ended with us in the ditch, the countless trips to Taco Bell and losing "undisclosed amounts" at Mystic Lake, and the hours we spent fishing this summer and not catching a damn thing, you were always by my side. Tanner you were my buddy, my pal, my sidekick and my partner in crime, but most importantly you are my best friend. We all love and miss you Tanner, but I know that you are here, still standing by my side.

Tanner - I thank God everyday for bringing you into our lives! Thanks for the great memories from our camping trip and fun times in Roskie - and for putting up with Nicole and me when we gave you a middle name and proceeded to call you Tanner Christian from then on!! Tanner-I don't know that I have the words...I miss you so much. Since freshman year, you have always been one of the "boys". Do you remember our camping trip and how much fun we all had? I will never forget that. I wish you were here to see the pictures from our party 2 mondays ago...i'm so glad we have them. Tanner, I didn't get to know you that well throughout the 4 years that I got to be blessed by knowing you to the extent of what I did. I am so sorry of the loss of your dear son and brother. When I saw the photo in the paper my heart jumped and I felt such a sadness. I remember his handsome face popping up at my window on the senior floor at Wayzata High School. He would brighten my day with his wonderful smile and quiet presence. I remember teasing him about how much I liked his sisters. I told him I hoped to say the same about him one day.
The students that have passed by my office have left their mark on my heart...some more than others. Tanner was one of them. God bless you Tanner. Be at peace.

When thinking about what to write in the guestbook, I realized somebody else's words were appropriate. Jack Kerouac wrote: "the only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing, but burn, burn, burn, like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars...". Tanner never said a commonplace thing. He was uncommonly unique in every way. Tanner, we miss you.

Tanner.. thanks for being a great friend. you made me laugh all the time and that's what i loved best about you. i'll never forget when you showed up at my dorm room two springs ago. that was the day we went from acquaintances to good friends. thanks for taking me up to bridger bowl all those times. spending time at bridger with you is definately my favorite memory. every minute i spend in the mountains from now on will no longer be just for myself..it'll also be for you, my friend.
