Terrence Arntzen Obituary

Arntzen, Terrence "Tad," age 60, died at home on Monday, September 25, in Hermantown, MN, after a long struggle with cancer. Born and raised in Duluth, MN, he was a 1968 graduate (in accounting and mathematics) of the University of Minnesota Duluth. He worked for more than 25 years as a software programmer and systems engineer at Unisys (or its predecessor companies) in Roseville, MN. In 1996, he and his wife moved to Duluth where Tad was employed as a supervisor for St. Louis County. Tad's many interests included: classical music, camping, canoeing, fishing (Lake Superior, the Arctic Ocean, and lakes in between), hunting, British comedies, astronomy, and photography. Tad will be remembered for his creative and inventive mind, his always-pleasant and very likeable personality, his energy and playfulness, and (above all) the love that he showed his wife and family every day of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Einar Arntzen; his brother, Lorentz; and his sister, Carol. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine "Kate" Arntzen (nee McIntyre); children, Karen (Will Dobbs) Arntzen and Susan (Randy) Tietjen; grandchildren, Benjamin and Sophia Tietjen; brothers, James (Carol) Arntzen and Gary (Jan) Arntzen; and many other friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held at the CREMATION SOCIETY OF MINN-ESOTA (218-624-5200), 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN, at 2PM on Saturday, September 30, 2006, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Luke's Hospice at St. Luke's Foundation Office, St. Luke's Hospital, 1000 E. 1st. St., Suite 102, Duluth, MN 55805, to be used for uninsured hospice patients.

You have my sincere sympathy during this difficult adjustment time. It is my loss that I did not know this great man, as he produced and nurtured a wonderful family that I am proud to have been associated. There is a part of him in all of you to carry forward his legacy. He is always close to you. God bless each of you as He knows what your needs are always.
