Vince FLYNN
Passed Away June 20, 2013 Ambushed by stage III metastatic prostate cancer in November 2010, author Vince Flynn fought for life as tenaciously as the characters he created, but closed the final chapter with peaceful surrender on June 19, 2013. He was fortified by 35 of his family, friends and clergy--who had his back. Vince was born April 6, 1966 in St. Paul. He proudly graduated from The Saint Thomas Academy and he earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of St. Thomas in 1988. His parents are Kathy (Dorle) Flynn, a renowned wildlife artist and Terry Flynn, a beloved high school teacher, coach and businessman. They now reside in Diamondhead, Mississippi and Apple Valley, Minnesota. Vinnie said he was blessed to be born into a large Irish Catholic story-telling family. He is survived by six siblings: Tim (Ann) Flynn of Apple Valley, Pat (Lisa) Flynn of Orono, Kevin (Michelle) Flynn of Lakeville, Dan Flynn (Jayne Chromik) of Eagan, Sheila Flynn (Mark Scheuer) of Savage, and Kelly Flynn of Apple Valley, as well as, 18 nieces and nephews. Vince will be missed by his large extended family, millions of loyal fans, and his friends in the publishing industry. During his distinguished but all-too-short career Vince published 14 action-packed thrillers which soared to the top of the New York Times Bestseller List (preceded by 69 rejection letters, all of which he saved). In spite of his illness he continued to work on his 15th novel and was in negotiations for a movie production. His entertaining personality made him in demand as a frequent guest on local and national radio and television programs. His talent for cultivating anonymous sources and gleaning knowledge about the inner workings of The Intelligence Community earned him respect on an international scale. He was told he was the most-read author at the Pentagon. Though he dined with presidents and kings, Vince remained close to his Minnesota roots, by coaching, serving on various boards and fundraising for his favorite charitable causes--especially his church, his alma maters and U. S. troops support. But his pride in those accomplishments was overshadowed still by his love for his wife Lysa whom he described as "My favorite thing about life," and their children Dane "Danger" (17), Ingrid "Ingy" (12), and Ana "Fluffy" (10) who fueled his creativity and inspired him to "keep the faith." Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 239 Selby Avenue, St. Paul. Family and friends may visit from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral. Memorials in Vince's name may be gifted to The Saint Thomas Academy at 949 Mendota Heights Road, Mendota Heights, Minnesota 55120. Electronic messages may be posted at www.VinceFlynn.com/InMemorium. Cards can be sent to Vince Flynn Memorial P.O. 50676, Mendota, Minnesota 55150-0676.

I saw Vince one morning at the Uptown Art Fair. I was a friend of his brother, Dan, and lived nearby. I was pleasantly surprised when Vinny said hello as I came out of the door of my apartment building. And he really meant it. I mean, he was the bigshot so it caught me off guard. I will never forget his sincerity when he asked "how I was doing." And that's the kind of guy he was. He gave you the time of day. We lost a great man.

Am an avid reader of spy and intelligence novels and recently chose one of Vince's to explore. Immediately hooked, I read a few more to discover that Vince had cancer. Still picking up more of his books, I continued to enjoy them. I decided to get more info on this bright handsome young author. Am stunned by the dreadful news that Vince had succumbed to prostrate cancer in 2013! In sorrow, am writing to express my anguish for Lysa and children, plus everyone else who loved and admired Vince. May Vince Rest In Peace in the arms of Jesus! He will be sorely missed by many!

Mitch Rapp is one of my favorite characters. An ardent fan from the start, I loved to watch his success flourish, like he was my kid brother. When Vince became ill, I prayed for him, thankful he could get the best treatment possible. When loss struck my own family, I couldn't read books anymore. Grief and stress makes it hard to concentrate. Time passed and I thought I'd try again with my old friend, Vince, only to find that Vince had passed on, too. My heart is saddened for his wife, family, friends and fans. Such a loss of not only a great writer, but a fine man and a true American. I pulled up American Assassin on my Kindle, a book I'd read before, and Vince took me on an adventure through Rapp's first year with Hurly. After 3 long and lonely years, my "reader's block" is over. A gift from God, a gift from an angel named Vince. You are blessed, you are missed.

Wow.....what a great story teller...and I am reading that the author Vince was a really good person never forgetting his family, his roots....you all were truly blessed to have him in your lives, and I just bet you all are probably really good folks as well....God blessed us with giving him writing talent. As a fellow Catholic, I am happy to hear that Vince remained so inspite of all the negativity surrounding the church

You were and remain an incredible find, an author whose great works in literature make you as legendary as any of the old masters - Michelangelo, Mozart, Bach. I was so shocked and beyond saddened to hear of your sudden passing. I knew your illness was of a serious sort, I lost an uncle to cancer of the pancreatic variety. I will definitely miss your excellence and distinctive voice inside my head. There's never a good time to lose a great author but I am certain in your captivating tales that you have set a high bar for the next generation to aspire to.

I just read this and am sobbing: I immediately began praying for Vince. I had no idea he was so unwell and having had someone close to me pass from cancer I know how hard he must have fought to survive. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you, his family and friends, all of whom must still be in such grief.

Even though he's gone, I said another prayer to thank Vince for his novels: I've been going through a challenging time recovering from a long illness and Vince's books have meant so much to me; they're the only books I've been reading. Tonight, I finished Executive Power and had been scouring my bookshelves for Memorial Day, I was checking the reading order and came across the news. I can't stop crying, please know how much his art meant to all of us. Especially me. I hope and pray that you are able to focus on the wonderful times you had with him and not the last, hard days. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Dear Mrs. Flynn and family: As an avid reader I discovered Vince via my son Ben. From then on I was hooked. My beloved husband of 52 years died shortly after Vince's death and I miss them both for vastly different reasons. I wish for all of you God's healing touch and know that He is with you always as is Vince in each day of memories. Respectfully, Dr. Rita Neu

Embarrassed to admit discovering the very sad news only two days ago. Discovered his first book in 2006 at an airport. Was immediately hooked and couldn't wait to read them all. A tremendous character was created and will always be my favourite and on a selfish note can't comprehend there won't be additional ones published. I know it's belated but I want to send my sincere condolences to Vinces wife and children I really am deeply saddened for you all. Often thought would wright after reading each book thanking him for great entertainment but never did. Hope you receive and accept message in the vain it's meant.
Look after each other and please take care
Very best wishes

My sincere condolences to the extended family. I travel around 50 miles each way to the office at least 4 days a week, and when listening to a Vince Flynn bokk on CD,(I re-visit each one about every 4 months) I often sit in my car to finish the current CD. I just heard of Vince Flynn passing over into a place especially reserved for authors of fine novels. I have been a sincere fan for some years now. He is and was my favorite author and will remain in both my mind and heart until my passing, which cannot be much further down the trail, for I am 83 now. He made my life much richer. You have my condolences and I acknowledge that old adage, "Life is not fair!" This is merely another example. I feel as though I have lost a very good and close friend, until time passes for me, I will be re-reading those novels, for they merit it. Ron Hall

My greatest condolences to the family of Vince Flynn. May angels and the Lord hold them in the palm of their hands. May they 'feel' the love and devotion of Vince Flynn's followers and readers.

Vince was a man of strength and convictions. He overcame many adversities and shared his passion with those of his readers. Our lives have been blessed as a result of knowing him through his writings. He made me realize the many great freedoms I do have in this country, and the sacrifices required to keep them.

Like most of us, I never had the chance to meet Vince, yet of course I knew him. I stopped reading due to poor eyes years ago, then started up again maybe seven years ago. One of the first books was "Term Limits". Needless to say I was hooked. Ironically, I'm in the middle of "The last man". My deepest sympathies to the Flynn family. Somehow I always felt a connection to Vince, and didn't know how or why. Last year I contacted an old friend/coworker who I hadn't talked to in years. I remember back in the day he would mention a "Flynny". That happened to be Vince's older brother Pat. They say it's a small world, I totally believe that. RIP Vince.

His books were the reason I took up reading for pleasure as an adult, and I read the first 10 in two years. I couldn't put them down. I also appreciate all Vince did for the military as one of my sons is a Marine, and his generousity didn't go un-noticed. Thank you for sharing him with the world.
