Dear Bobby, Alissa, and Amberly,
I have never met you, however I know many of the 'all good' details of your lives because your Dad was one of my best friends. We grew up together in Gaylord and have remained in contact over the years. Whenever I spoke with him, he updated me on his 3 children, he loved you with all of his heart and was very proud of each of you. I never saw your Dad without a smile on his face, which amazed me as he had been dealt his share of tragedy and premature loss of beloved family members. He was an inspriration to me. My daughter died in Sept. and your dad came to her service. He was there for me to share his endless love and support. May you know how much he is missed and I do believe he is smiling down at me as I write this. God bless you all.

To Wayne's family,
Wayne brought many memories to all of us that when we embrace these thoughts we sit back and smile, and just wish he were yet with us.
Thank you Lord for sharing him with us. God Bless.

Mr. Dietz was one in a million. More than a great coach, he was truly a great man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, thank you for sharing him with all of us that walked the halls of WHS through the years. Dietzer taught us more than just baseball, he taught us about life. I went on from WHS to become a St. Paul Police Officer. Thanks Dietz, for all the lessons along the way, rest in peace and godspeed.

Quite a few years have passed since I walked the halls of Woodbury as a student and suited up for Friday night football, but my memories of Coach Dietz remain vivid. He was a natural in drawing out the good in people, and not just in sports or academia. I admired his intensity and passion to win balanced with humility and self control. He always showed genuine interest in getting to know his students and his players. His example has had a lasting impact on me.

Although I hated math (and went on to become an English major and writer...no math involved), Mr. Dietz was one of my favorite teachers. He was a kind, happy, patient person who loved to teach. You could just tell that about him in the way he interacted with all his students, whether they were math whizzes or not. I still remember that day in 10th grade geometry class when I told him that I knew I would never ever have any use for math. He told me I would...for example, if I wanted to paint a room I would need to know the surface area so I could buy the adequate amount of paint. I told him that's why God invented Sears. I still remember his great laugh. I ran into him years later taking his teenage son to a movie. I told him I still was not using math...with a wink. He just laughed and he said that he bet I didn't...with a wink back. Woodbury Sr. High School was a better place because of teachers lilke Mr. Dietz!

Mr. Dietz was one of the most genuine and positive people I can remember growing up. He was a definite role model for me. He had a lot of energy and passion. My family offers its condolunces to the Dietz family. We will have you in our thoughts.

Wayne was a great friend who would go the extra mile for others.
He invested much of himself in making it possible for all who were interested to be a part of a Woodbury summer baseball team. He cared about all the players including those who were not on his high school roster or who attended other schools.

In honor of Wayne Dietz (aka "Mr. Dietz")...God bless you...I remember hating math so much. I never thought I would need it, let alone use it in life. Geometry was never my specialty (I got a D in your class~gasp), which I ultimately found I was never any good at pool, either...all those angles and such. Well, Mr Dietz, you gave me the incentive to stick math out...persevere...I use it every day in my job at 3M...who'd have thought?
I remember running into you post graduation at Silks bar with Mr. Johnson, and how when I was 21, how odd it was to see our "teachers" at the bar. Well, Mr. Dietz, you were one of the great ones....a man who always had a smile on his face. A man with determination and desire to influence others not only a teacher, but a coach. As most instructors, you gave more to us, than we ever gave you. But you pushed us to be our best. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. My condolences to the Dietz family as you grieve his loss, but cherish every happy memory.

We are in Florida and visiting my brother and his wife when I got the call from my daughter regarding Wayne's heart attack and then his death. I had the privilege of working with Wayne and also our children had Wayne as a teacher. A truly wonderful friend, teacher and all round good guy. Wayne, you will be truly missed!! Dietzer, my heart is very sad to lose such a legend to the student body. You were my teacher and football coach many years ago (Class of 1981). Just this summer we played some golf at Hudson with my brother and son, it was so fun. My brother(Rich), myself and son (Nick) all played Varsity golf, but after 7 holes you were taken it to us (Dietzer was 1 under par). Unfortunately, we got rained out and could not finish the round. We all vowed to do it again next year when my brother was back in town. My lasting memory of you will be on the golf course where everyone knew you and wanted to talk with you. Dietzer had the rare ability to connect with all people at all ages. He was truly a great teacher, coach and person who we will all miss. Thanks for all you have done for me and all the students from Woodbury during the past 30 years.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Wayne was such a great teacher and friend! I am a past student and friend of Wayne's and he was always one of my favorites! Over the years every time I'd see him out and about he'd run up and give me a great big hug and kiss, he never forgot anyone! He will truely be missed I can't believe he's gone! I feel so blessed to have known him, and he will forever live on in my heart! My thoughts and prayer are with all of you in this time of sadness! I know he loved you all so much, he will be with you all forever in your hearts and precious memories!

Mr. Dietz was a teacher who met each student at the level where he was. We will remember him as a person who was kind even to students who didn't "get" math. Our sympathies to Mr. Dietz's family.

When Wayne was told there were only 24 hours in a day he was sure they were wrong and figured there were at least 25 or 26 hours in each day and he scheduled his day accordingly. Wayne had a tremendous love for life, family, friends and students. I have never met a more generous man. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched. Thank you Wayne.
