It is with a heavy heart that I write this. Finally after years of thinking about calling Bill, today I finally made the call and learned of his passing. I was reminded of Bill’s management style as I was talking to my son regarding his reporting structure. In thinking back of my working career, it was Bill who came to mind as I was thinking of managers I enjoyed working under. My only regret as I write this, is that I did not contact Bill earlier. My thoughts and prayers go to his son Jack and his daughter Nancy, along with the other members of his family.

(1934-2009)
Woodbury Community Church extends
our deepest Christian sympathies
to the family of Bill Nygren who
passed away suddenly on Friday, May
22, 2009.
Bill was born in Shawano, WI on
March 23, 1934 to parents Vic & Faye
Nygren. He was the youngest of four
children joining brother Jack and sisters
Barb & Lois. He grew up in
Bowler, WI. Upon high school graduation,
Bill went to the University of
Minnesota and majored in Accounting.
He attended University Avenue Congregational
Church in St. Paul, where
Bill met Pat Gundy and they were
married in 1955 and had two beautiful
children, Jack & Nancy. Bill had a 37-
year career at 3M Company. He also
took on various leadership roles with
the Conservative Christian Congregational
Conference, including being the
only layperson to ever serve as Conference
President.
Bill retired from 3M in 1992 where he
& Pat found much joy in spending time
with grandchildren, Lauren, Reed, Rachel
& Matthew. The relationship was
special and a great blessing to kids and
grandparents alike. After a long illness
and loving care from Bill, Pat passed
away in 1999. Bill met Carol Gillaspie,
and they were married in 2001 for
eight happy years.
Bill will be greatly missed, but we rejoice
in knowing that he is with his
Heavenly Father and is eternally fulfilled
in the Kingdom of God!

To your entire family, my sincerest sympathy sent with fond memories of our UACC days. Your Dad's smile and upbeat personality are part of those memories. I let my kids know of his passing, and I'm sure they'll remember Bill. Your whole family has been exemplary examples of walkin' the walk and talkin' the talk, and I feel fortunate to have known Bill.

There are a few names I’ve been called by children that are really hard to live up to, because I remember what those names meant to me when I was a child. One is “Dad.” I am blessed with a great Dad and strive to be the same to my kids. Another is “Uncle Bill.” I shared Bill’s name. Jack’s Dad Bill and my Dad Jack didn’t want “juniors,” so they each named a child after their brother. Today, hearing a niece or nephew call me “Uncle Bill” reminds me of the countless days and nights I was welcomed into Uncle Bill’s home. It reminds me of the endless hours he pitched whiffle ball to Jack and me and the many Twins games he took us to. It reminds me of his sense of humor and how he loved to tease (usually Uncle Leo was the victim). It reminds me of his impeccable sense of logic, fairness, and wonderfully consistent personality. I will miss my Uncle Bill, but I will always be grateful that he taught me what it means to be Uncle Bill.

With deep sympathy,

Condolences to the Nygren family. With Bill's passing I now have lost part of my childhood. We celebrated 18 years of birthdays. I had just contacted him on Facebook this year and it was so good to communicate with him.
Rest in peace. See you in Heaven

Dear Jack and to the whole Nygren family,

Our hearts and sincere sympathy reach out to you during this most difficult time. Reed's dad just phoned us today and told us of Bill's death. It must be so very hard as it was so unexpected. Bill was a great guy. He always welcomed us so freely into his home when we visited. Please know that we're thinking about you and Reed will try to call you Jack.

Love from the Hess family, Reed, Aud, Joe, Allie Evan, & Derek.

To the Bill Nygren family, please accept my deepest sympathies. Bill was part of 3M Administrative Services for years, and a good friend to many of us here. He was a regular visitor to our office prior to his retirement and spoke fondly of his family and home on Madeline Island. He was one of the finest gentlemen I knew. He will be remembered well.

"To the family of William Nygren(Bill-to me)--sincere
condolences--Bill and I were one-two in our H.S. graduating
class--believe me when I say--I was 'way-back' #2--
Having taught at least thousands of mathematics students in
my forty years--Bill always stood out as number one"

"I hadn't seen him since our high school days. Let me say,
he had 'the largest brain & heart' and softest hands(for basketball)
that I ever played with. GOD's speed Bill--Your friend and classmate
