Dale Gines Obituary

DALE M. GINES Dale M. Gines, age 93, of Hanna, Utah, passed away August 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1932, in Tabiona, Utah, to Moral and Theo Mitchell Gines. He played basketball in High School and graduated from Tabiona High School. He then joined the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. Dale married Linda Lee Thomas on May 4, 1957, in Tabiona, Utah. They were later sealed on June 14, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dale worked at the Great Lakes Timber Company, logging with his father before and after his military service. He also worked in the Lark Mine, in Lark, Utah, and then for the Utah Department of Transportation, retiring after 33 years. He raised his family on a cattle ranch, but his passion was driving a team and pulling a wagon. In 1997, the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the pioneers into Utah, he joined the re-enactment of the Mormon Trail by driving his team from Omaha, Nebraska, to Salt Lake City. In 2002, he took part with his wagon and team in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Winter Games, and later drove his team in the Chuck Norris movie, Paradise Valley. He was also active in the community and was instrumental in getting the Hanna Sewer/Water Project going. Dale was a people person and could talk to and make friends with anyone. He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and had a deep testimony of the Book of Mormon. He had served in various callings, his favorite being in the High Priests Group Leadership and as a counselor in the Fruitland Branch Presidency. He was a family man, first and foremost, and somehow knew how to spend time with his children while juggling the many other things he was doing. In his later years, he always had a grandkid by his side. He will be remembered as a man of integrity and trust. Dale is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Linda, of Hanna; children, Leland D (Tina) Gines, Tabiona; Dale Ann (Charles) Lindsay, Talmage; Joel T (Heidi) Gines, Hanna; Sue Lyn Young, Talmage; Patty Jean Parkhurst, Las Vegas; Linda Liz (Stacey) Porter, New Harmony; Gala Marie (Lance) Hatch, Kemmerer, Wyoming; Jan Morene (William) Dunn, El Paso, Texas; 49 grandchildren, 94 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Viola Gines; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Grayson Pliler; an infant sister, Delores; a sister, Jean Fabrizio; and a brother, Robert Max Gines. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Tabiona Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.. Viewings will be held on Friday evening at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Burial will be in the Tabiona Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Navy Honor Guard and the Duchesne American Legion.
