Ava Glover Obituary

Ava Nell Glover, 90, of Philo, Ca. passed away on July 30, 2010 in Ukiah. Ava was born in Central City, Kentucky on May 23, 1920 and lived there throughout her childhood years. She was briefly married to Phillip Dukes of Central City, Kentucky, who is the father of her only child, Donald. Ava worked in a munitions plant in Ohio during World War II and moved to Hammond, Indiana in the late 40's to take a job at General American Plastics Corporation as a line supervisor. She supported her son and both her parents until her mother died of Leukemia in 1951 and her father later remarried and returned to Kentucky. Ava met Robert Glover in 1949 and they were married in 1955. They subsequently moved to Philo, California were they resided on Robert's parents ranch. Ava was active in the community and was an early dispatcher for the Anderson Valley Volunteer Fire Department. She was an election pole worker for over 40 years and participated in the Mendocino County Fair each year. As a wife and mother, she also worked as an office manager/bookkeeper for Tom's TV and later for Glover's TV & Appliance. She also held a part time job with the county. Ava had an amazing zeal for life and helping people. Her tremendous work ethic was honed in a plastic factory during World War II. She spent countless hours working as a volunteer in various local and county capacities and was always willing to share a good story about her life and how it tied in to a current event or something from your own life experience. She was an equal to the force that was Robert Glover and created a balance to the family. Ava lived life with determination and was uncompromising in her love for friends, family and of course cats. In her later years, Ava got the most joy out of spending time with her only son, Donald and her only grandson, Derek. An avid gamer, Ava would spend hours working word search puzzles, which kept her mind sharp and enjoyed frequent trips to the Indian Casino for some penny slots. She will be remembered for her tireless work ethic, bawdy sense of humor, great stories and her amazing spaghetti. Ava loved animals and was known for her extensive collection of cats. Ava is survived by her son Donald and his wife Kathleen Dukes of Fremont, Ca., grandson Derek Dukes of San Francisco, Ca. brother Ova Jewel 'Dude' Wilkerson of Dyer, Indiana. Her husband Bobby Glover preceded Ava in death. Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Eversole Mortuary from 10 am 6 pm. A graveside service will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Boonville at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday August 4, 2010. A gathering of friends to remember Ava and celebrate her life will begin at noon Wednesday at the Boonville Hotel. Memorial donations in Ava's name may be made to the AV Volunteer Fire Department, AV Medical Center or the AV Historical Society instead of flowers. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eversole Mortuary.

Donald:

I am saddened to learn of your mother's passing. She was a very gracious and generous lady. Finally, she and Bob are once again reunited.
