Charles Pivniska Obituary

Beloved father, grandfather and husband passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly at his home on June 1, 2007 in Upper Lake where he spent many happy years with the family he adored. He was 59 years old and a life-long resident of Lake County. He was born in Lakeport on August 30, 1947, raised in Lucerne and graduated from Upper Lake High School and American River College. He was a combat veteran of the US Army serving as a Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. For the past 33 years he owned and operated Pivniska Trucking in Upper Lake. He loved to visit, and had many interests, and more friends that can be named, but his greatest joy, his one true love was his family. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marilyn; daughter Annie and her husband Bryan Petrie; daughter Sandy and her husband Travis O'Ferrall; son Chris and his fiancee, Cassie; daughter Allison, and his five beloved grandchildren: Zoey, Payton, Brody, Camrin and Jackson. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Wiebe; nephew Mike Wiebe; mother-in-law, Millie Emenegger and friends by the score. All of us will miss his infectious smile, his hearty laugh and the warmth of his hugs. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Upper Lake Cemetery, 780 Clover Valley Road. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 1625 High Street, Lakeport. Friends and family are invited to a potluck gathering at the Pivniska home following the services. Donations in Butch's name may be made to the Upper Lake High School Booster Club, 675 Clover Valley Road, Upper Lake, CA 95485. For further information call CHAPEL OF THE LAKES 263-0357 or 994-5611.

Please accept my deepest sympathy and heartfelt thoughts. I'll always remember Butch as he was in high school, a fun, likeable guy who everyone loved. You never heard anyone say a negative thing about Butch and you never heard him say a negative thing about anyone else. I cherish the short years we shared at Upper Lake High.
May the comfort of friends and family be your strength now and in the days ahead. I'm sorry I was unable to attend the services.

Dear Marilyn and family:

I don't think I saw Butch more than 2, maybe three times, in the 25 years I knew him, but I talked to him many times on the phone for business and boy could he talk :-) He was so proud of his kids and grandkids, I feel I know them from all the wonderful things he said about them.

May all the wonderful memories you have of your husband, father and grandfather comfort you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the entire Pivniska family. I worked at Hi-Way Grocery for many years, including some time with Sandy. My sympathies & condolences to the entire Pivniska family.
I first met "Butchie" in 1957 when he played Little League baseball for our Lu-Ni Lions . He played catcher and was always an inspiration. He was pugnacious and was very gregarious. We played Pony League baseball too and of course I knew him in high school.
His sister Mary was in my class and was our DeMolay Sweetheart.
Butchie we will all miss you.

June 6, 2007

Altho Bob & I did not know Butch well, we knew the kind of person he was through our grandson, Brad Hayes, who loves and respects him as a mentor and father image. Butch helped and encouraged Brad in so many ways. Brad has turned his life's work into trucking and I know without Butch it would never have happened. We thank him for his caring and nuturing ways. We know the Lord has taken Butch into His protective and loving arms as one of His beloved sons. He is in a wonderful place. Please be comforted knowing he is safe and at peace and that you will be reunited with him someday. With Love and deep sympathy, Bob & Joan Lininger

I did not know Butch very well but I am now living with Allison and am great friends with her and one thing that I could see just from listening to their phone conversations was how much he loved his family. I loved listening to her tell stories about the funny things he did and the great gestures he's made for so many people. He was a great man with a huge heart. My heart goes out to the whole family and everyone who was graced with his presence.

June 6, 2007

I am sad to learn of Butch's passing - we were classmates through all of high school and he was a fun guy to joke with. Butch was my graduation marching partner in 1965 - back when he was short and we were at the front of the line! Too young to leave us, but he had a full and great life and family. I will miss you, Butch.

Karl, Laura, Stephanie and Kasey Hutchinson

June 6, 2007

Butch always loved to talk about his family and how proud he was of his children, but at the same time he always wanted you to share and talk about your own. He was a very fun and caring person and will be remembered by many for his generosity as many times you would see him give up his last "dollar" in his pocket to someone more needy. He will truly be missed.
Now as the days pass may his memories and stories always comfort you. Our prayers are with you,

Jerry Barney

I have know Butch since we were kids. His father used to grade roads and work with his bulldozer for my dad. I remember driving around up in the hills in his military Jeep with his Remington 250-3000 in a scabbard by the windshield.
Butch always had a mile and made you feel welcome. As the years passed it was always a pleasure to see a Pivniska truck, in my mind that meant Butch was doing well. I'm sorry to find that he has preceded me. My condolences to his family and friends.

I feel a great sense of loss with the passing of Butch. His legendary smile and sense of humor will be missed by the Upper Lake community and all who knew him. He always had a friendly greeting for me when I encountered him during visits to UL. It should be noted that Butch was one of the finest all around athletes to graduate from UL High. I had the privilege of calling him a teammate as a fellow Class of 1965 graduate. May his memories live on forever.
