Charolette C. Louis
1940 - 2021
Charlotte C. Louis, a native of Columbia, California, lately residing in Fallon, Nevada, passed away at Banner Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. She was 81.
Charlotte Louis was born to James E. and Jean W. (Wermuth) Poor of Carmel, California.
She grew up in Rawhide, where, when she was 6 years old, her father later built a ranch house on property along the Horseshoe-Bend of the Stanislaus River below Table Mountain in Columbia. This was no hobby farm, however; it was a working cattle ranch with chores to do, such as baling hay and wrapping it by hand, moving and penning cattle, and providing veterinary medical care for both cattle and horses.
Charlotte's interest in helping people surfaced at a young age. After high school, she completed the vocational nursing program at Columbia College, received her license, and worked for the Tuolumne County hospital for several years. She was a trailblazer within her family as the first to attend college. Later, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work from Stanislaus State University in Turlock. Following graduation, she returned to Tuolumne County Social Services where she specialized in child and adult protective services. It was a demanding job, matched by the challenges of being a single parent. Charlotte served her community through the county's Social Services Department for 28 years, until an unfortunate automobile accident abruptly ended her career. Shortly after retiring, she moved to northern Nevada to be closer to her daughter.
She embraced life in her adopted home of Fallon, Nevada, participating in many civic groups, including the Churchill County Planning Commission, where she served as the vice chairwoman for 17 years. She was especially proud of her 52-year membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed creating handmade garments, embroidery and needlework, and was a voracious reader and avid gamer. In addition, she loved being outdoors, horseback riding, gardening or traveling to nearby scenic destinations with her daughter.
Charlotte C. Louis is survived by her daughter, Teresa Jarrett, as well as her ex-husband, Bob Louis, and his son Bobby Louis. An Eastern Star funeral service will be held in her honor at the Murphys Masonic Hall, 384 Church Street, Murphys, California; date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Churchill County Audiobooks in Charlotte Louis's name.
