Lifetime Tuolumne County resident Doris Catherine Egger passed away Nov. 8, 2021. Doris was a fourth-generation Tuolumne County resident going back to 1851 when her great-grandfather, Wilhelm Hibbing, first settled in the county mining the goldfields. Born the third child to Roy and Edith Hibbing, she was the last member of her generation in the family. Doris was born and raised on the Hibbing Ranch in Mono Vista. She attended Soulsbyville Elementary and Sonora High schools. Doris met the love of her life, Merrell Egger, while waitressing at the Confidence Inn. They married in April 1946 and built their first home on the Hibbing Ranch. As their family grew, they built a new and larger home just down the road overlooking the original two-story ranch house she was born in. It was here where they raised their four children. As a young girl, Doris spent many summers with her grandparents at the Gem Mine in Long Barn. Doris' hobbies included camping, sewing, knitting, crocheting, dancing and cheering on the San Francisco Giants. She and Merrell enjoyed traveling in their RV. They traveled across the U.S. several times, once to visit a granddaughter and another time to attend a Women of the Moose ceremony where she was awarded her Senior Regent certificate. Doris was a homemaker most of her life, though she spent several years working at the Anderson Shook Mill in Soulsbyville. She was a PTA member, classroom mother, and volunteered for many school field trips and Girl Scout outings. She lived a rich life devoted to her family. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. We will miss her loving presence in our lives. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Merrell; her brothers, Kenneth and Melvin Hibbing; and sister, Elva Siirila-Bamber. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Richard Egger, Marilyn (David) Egger-Kiner, Kathleen (Richard) Imlach, Robert (Kathleen) Egger; granddaughters, Tegan Egger, Suki Egger, Sarah Schlenz, Alicia Schlenz and Cortney Kiner. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose in Sonora.
