ELLEN IRENE "NANA" HALEY

1952 - 2025

Ellen Irene "Nana" Haley, 73, of Yuma, Arizona, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Sonora. She was born May 2, 1952, in Sonora.
Ellen was a longtime resident of Tuolumne County. She graduated Summerville High School in 1970 and was queen of the Tuolumne Lumber Jubilee in 1969.
She remained in the county for most of her life, where she raised her two daughters with her husband of 52 years. She was the local beautician and business owner of The Hair Lair in Tuolumne township for 20 years. After selling the beauty shop, she started a day care where kids in the county to this day still called her Nana. During the seven years of running the day care, she bought the Tuolumne Frosty where it was appropriately renamed to Nana and Papa's Tuolumne Frosty, which she and her husband, Ed, ran it for five years.
She was fortunate to retire at 50 with her husband, and they traveled full time around the U.S., sticking mostly to western states, but their favorite place to stay was at Pilot Knob in Yuma, Arizona. She was a traditional "snowbird," spending winters in Arizona and summers back in Tuolumne County. She enjoyed life to the fullest, and if she wasn't traveling or enjoying her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, it was enjoying a drink in her hand and toes in the sand.
Ellen is survived by her spouse of 55 years, Edward Leo Haley; children Shawna Jones, of Arizona, and Daniell "Dee" Baldwin, of Twain Harte; six grandchildren, Johnny Baldwin, Robert Baldwin, Michael Baldwin, Haley Durden, Mariah Johnson and Dakota Jones; seven great-grandchildren; and sibling Virla James.
She was preceded in death by brothers Glade Marr, Bill Marr and Jim Marr; and by her father, Clarence Marr, and mother, Ruth Ashcroft.
A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. May 2, at the Sonora Moose Lodge.
