Longtime Tuolumne resident John P. Dunlap passed away on Nov. 14, 2021, at 83 years old. He was born Dec. 28, 1937, to C. Palmer Dunlap and Marie Antonia Tomandl. In 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy in Omaha, Nebraska, and worked as a jet mechanic. He was stationed in the Bay Area where he met and married Patricia, his wife of 62 years.
They moved to Tuolumne in 1966, where John built the Dunlap family home and property. He began Dunlap Plumbing and has served Tuolumne, Twain Harte, and the surrounding communities since 1968. The family business continues with his son, Daniel. John served for years on the Summerville Elementary School Board while his six children attended school there. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and backpacking in the high-country. He was also a devout Catholic and a frequent parishioner at St. Joseph's in Tuolumne and at St. Stephen the First Martyr Catholic Church in Sacramento. John was a devoted instructor of weekly Bible classes at All Saints Parish for over five years. More than anything, he wanted his adult students to dig deep into scripture, to forge authentic character, and bring God's grace to their hearts.
John qA preceded in death by his wife, Pat, and their son and daughter-in-law, John and Julie Dunlap.
He is survived by his children, Tom (Tricia), Julie (Barry), Tim (Deb), Beth (Dave) and Daniel (Angela), as well as 42 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob, Adrienne and Martha.
