KELLY LAMONT HISLOP

1954 - 2025

Kelly Hislop, of Tuolumne County, passed away on April 25, 2025, at home after a long battle with cancer. He was 71.
Kelly was born in Ogden, Utah, on Feb. 13, 1954, to Gary and Cleo Hislop, but lived most of his life in California, growing up in the Sierra Nevada on construction sites while dams and powerhouses were being constructed. He lived in the high country of the Kings River and later moved to the Hetch Hetchy project area in Cherry Valley, Early Intake and Moccasin in Tuolumne County. He attended school at one- and two-room school houses and later graduated from Sonora High School.
At age 18, he joined the Navy during the Vietnam War and served mostly on supply ships traveling to many ports, seeing much of the world as well as the tragedy of war.
After returning home, he married Diane Gail Fish on March 11, 1978. Together they raised their son, Henry (Hank) Hislop, who brought much joy to all throughout the years.
Kelly also enjoyed his few years of adventure living in Panama, where he made many friends old and young.
Kelly is survived by his son, Hank (Michelle), and two grandchildren, Skylar and Sierra, of Soulsbyville, California; his mother, Cleo Zarek, of Sonora; sister, Suzanne Simpson, and brother in-law, Randy Simpson, of East Sonora; and sister, Sherrie Hislop, of Jamestown. He also is survived by longtime friend Chuck (Karen) Walker.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary L. Hislop, three siblings and many relatives in Utah.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Sierra, The Veterans Association, and all the angels that gave Kelly love and care.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
