Alfred Conner Obituary
NEWFIELDS -- Alfred Conner Jr., 94, of Exeter Road, died Sept. 25, 2008, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born Jan. 16, 1914, in East Boston, Mass., to Alfred and Teresa (Perkins) Conner.
He graduated from Exeter High School and University of New Hampshire in 1937 with a degree in economics.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He owned and operated Squamscott Beverages in Newfields for more than 50 years. He was an active member of Newfields Community Church.
He was a 70-year member of Rising Star Lodge No. 47 F&AM in Newmarket and Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket. He was a member of Newfields Fire Department and was a deputy forest fire warden for many years. He served on many boards in Newfields, including school board, planning board, board of selectman and was a library trustee.
He was very proud to have donated the land to Newfields Youth Athletic Association for a baseball field.
Family members include his wife of 60 years, M. Carolyn (Brady) Conner of Newfields; two sons, William Conner of London, England, and Thomas Conner of Newfields; a daughter, Teresa Kaufmann of Newfields; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Masonic services will be held at 3 p.m.
A funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Newfields Community Church, with the Rev. Jean Bass officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Newfields Community Church, Main Street, Newfields 03856.

My deep condolences to your whole family. I didn't hear of your loss until today. I'd been remenicing stories my dad would tell of their youth friendship. One of which was the lambs they were raising in which they mysteriously disappeared. My dad never did like lamb. 8

Mrs Conner, Bill, Tom, and Theresa -
Alfred's (he'll always be Mr. Conner to me) passing marks the end of an era and leaves the town of Newfields the poorer for it. I was my privilege to have had my first job working at the bottling works in the summer. I have many fond memories of times in your home from growing up in Newfields. He was truly a great and generous person and will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing him!

Tom & family: My sincere sympathies to you all. I remember Mr. Conner back in the late 50's & early 60's, as he delivered his tonic to Higgins Ice Cream, where I was working. He always had a cheery word for everyone.

Heartfelt and respectful condolences to all the Conner family.As a former resident,employee and friend I am truly saddened by this mans passing,if ever a life should be celebrated his would be number one. Condolences to the family. My memories go back to the Senior Mr. Connors when my Dad delivered his product. Enjoyed watching those bottles get filled, and capped, and there was always a sample.

Mrs Conner, Teresa, Bill & Tom: I was very sorry to hear of Mr Conner's passing. I remember numerous walks during the summer to the library and stopping off at the bottling works to say hello.

Mrs.Conner & family I am sorry to hear about Mr.C,he will surely missed he was a wonderful man. when I was living in NH ... I would run into him at the old post office and shoot the breeze with him.. you all a wonderful family and it was nice to come on friday's, awhile back though to help Mrs. C. with cleaning... now I live in S.C. it will be 2 yrs the end of Oct. sure miss you all up there... Dear Mrs. Conner, Bill, Tom, and Teresa, I was saddened to hear that our dear Mr. Conner has departed his presence with us, for his final resting place in the house of the Lord. I clearly remember being invited back to your house after school (in the sixties) by Teresa and we would find all sorts of fun things to do. Of course the highlight was the trip out to the 'tonic shed' to retrieve our after school refreshment! What a treat indeed! And gosh, who could forget the winter sledding on the back hill? Mr. Conner was a man of his word, kind, caring and thoughtful to others. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him, as well as by those who have benefited from his wisdom and kindness. Mr. Conner will live on in our memories and in our hearts. With Deepest Sympathy.

To Carolyn, Bill, Tom, Teresa and family,
I was sorry to hear about "Mr. Conner" Alfred, as I would later get to call him; but to those of us in my generaton...no Halloween's "Begger's Night" was ever complete until we walked up the hill to the Conners' to receive our free bottle of `tonic` from Mr. Conner. He always had a laugh and a smile as he let us pick out our favorite flavor and then stated, "you must drink it here, because I reuse the bottles" and sometimes (to our delight) he would show us the bottle washing machine. My first walk up that hill without my Mother was when I was 8 and my last walk up the hill was 20 yrs. later with my own 7 yr. old son and Alfred still let me pick out my favorite flavor!
You all are in my thoughts and prayers as I extend my deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved Alfred.
