Andrew Manghis

MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. - Andrew Manghis, 92, of Melbourne Beach, and formerly West Yarmouth, Mass., passed away at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Feb. 1, 2013.

He was born in Haverhill, Mass., Nov. 20, 1920, son of the late Charles and Ovarania (Leonardis) Manghis. He was educated in Newport, N.H., at Towle High School, entered the U.S. Navy gyrocompass school in Norfolk, Va., and achieved the rank of 1st class electrician's mate during World War II. He then went to school at the Franklin Technical Institute in Boston. He married Stella E. Evangelou on Feb. 11, 1951, and they had shared 51 years when she passed in 2002. They lived in Reading, Mass., for 25 years until retiring to Cape Cod in 1982. He has resided in Florida with his brother George for the past several years.

He is survived by two sons, Charles A. Manghis and his wife Karyn R. Gello of Nantucket, Mass., and George A. Manghis of Tega Cay, S.C.; his brother, George Manghis, of Florida and Plaistow, N.H.; brother-in-law Jesse Evangelou of Wells, Maine; grandchildren, David, Julia, Janeen, Eve, and Alana Manghis, and several nieces and nephews.

services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on June 29 at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church on Winter Street in Newport. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery. Fr. Ephraim Ehrs will officiate.
