Carole Lombardi Gaynor (DeeDee), 84, of Exeter and formerly of Brentwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Exeter, NH following a brief illness.
She was born on December 20, 1940, in Everett, Massachusetts, the beloved middle child of the late John and Rose (Sferrazza) Lombardi. Carole was the devoted wife of the late John M. Gaynor, who predeceased her in 1989. A love story that began in high school, their family fondly remembers how Carole's charm, along with her stylish convertible and horn-rimmed glasses, first caught John's eye. The couple married in 1963 and made Brentwood their home in 1969, settling on Deer Hill Road, where Carole lived for many wonderful years.
Carole dedicated over 38 years to Stratham Tire as one of their first employees, serving as the company's trusted bookkeeper and office manager until her retirement. She also lent her time and heart to the Brentwood Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, actively supporting her community.
In her younger years, Carole was an avid bowler, golfer, and softball player. Later in life, she became an enthusiastic resident of Langdon Place in Exeter, where the vibrant community of staff and fellow residents brought her great joy and laughter. She enjoyed their activities, games, and social events.
Known for her love of Subarus and her occasional trips to Las Vegas, Carole had a sense of adventure that kept her young at heart. A fan of slot machines and pool, Carole was often seen brandishing her own pool cue, playing with her son and grandchildren during family gatherings or at the Langdon Place table. She was full of contrasts-generous and kind, yet spirited and strong-willed. Family gatherings and New Year's Eve celebrations were not complete without her presence, and she took great pride in sharing joyful moments with her loved ones.
Carole especially cherished being a grandmother. Her passion for sharing her hobbies was evident in how she encouraged her grandchildren to learn golf and eagerly participated in family events. Her meticulously arranged Christmas Village displays were a hallmark of the holiday season, symbolizing her love of traditions and family togetherness.
Carole is survived by her two loving children and their families: her daughter Michele Whitehouse and husband Butch of Brentwood, NH; granddaughter Samantha Cole and husband Timothy, along with great-grandson Jack, of Exeter, NH; and grandson Tucker Whitehouse of Brentwood, NH. She is also survived by her son John J. Gaynor and wife Danielle of Epping, NH; grandson John Michael Gaynor of Epping, NH; and granddaughter Hannah Hamel with fiancé Kelly Duffy, also of Epping, NH.
She is mourned by her younger brother, Dan Lombardi, and his wife Judy, as well as many nieces and nephews. Carole was predeceased by her older brother, John Lombardi, and his wife Linda.
Calling hours will be at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH on Saturday November 22, 2025 from 10am - noon with services held at noon. A luncheon will be held immediately following at the Exeter Senior Center at 30 Court Street, Exeter NH. Interment will be Sunday November 23, 2025.
