Charlotte MacNeill Obituary

GOFFSTOWN - Heaven has gained a sweet angel with the passing of Charlotte MacAskill MacNeill on Feb. 2, 2017, in the Converse Home of Burlington, Vt., where she had lived for the past six years. She passed peacefully, with her family at her side.

Born in Brookline, Mass., on Aug. 10, 1919, to Charles and Charlotte Coughlan, young Charlotte grew up in Brookline with five siblings, spending summers at their beach house in Scituate, where many happy memories were made.

After graduating from Brookline High School, she worked in Boston until marrying her first husband, Malcolm ""Mac"" MacAskill, in 1940. When Mac returned from WW II, they lived in Waltham, Mass., for seven years before moving to Goffstown, N.H. There they raised their two children and became active in small-town church, civic, and social life.

Mac died in 1977, and 10 years later, Charlotte married Mac's late sister's widower, Harold MacNeill. They shared 20 happy years together, traveling across the U.S.A. many times and wintering at Harold's home in San Diego, Calif.

Mom was a gentle, kind, and loving soul who had a strong faith and enormous artistic talent. Her painting, stenciling, sewing, tin punching, and interior designs were lovely and continue to grace her family's homes. She learned to play the organ in mid-life. Charlotte was a stickler for healthy, whole food, and was well-recognized as an outstanding pie maker. Although not particularly athletic, Charlotte was a petite, lithe, and fit woman who water-skied on her 70th birthday! She also had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Dawn Philibert, of Williston, Vt., and her adoring and adored twin granddaughters, Anna and Bryn Philibert. She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Merry MacAskill, of Hooksett; her son-in-law, George H. Philibert, of South Burlington, Vt.; and son-in-law Kent MacNeill of San Diego, Calif., his wife, Melinda, and Kent's two children, Jesse and Laurie. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was predeceased by her two husbands, son Nelson MacAskill, and her five siblings.

Her family wishes to thank the Converse home for the wonderful care they gave her during her final years.

My whole family was very saddened to hear of the passing of Charlotte. We all knew her very well, and she was one of the kindest and sweetest women I have ever known. Our family has so many wonderful memories of her all throughout our lives. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered for that wonderful, sweet smile of hers. Our sincere condolences go out to Dawn, Anna, Bryn, and the entire family. Love, Patti Baker-Trottier family.

I am so sorry to hear of Charlotte's passing. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn sustain and surround you, until you meet again, Psalm 147:3.
