Doris Verge Obituary

Doris Verge, formerly of Enfield, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at her residence in Concord, New Hampshire on June 15, 2023. Doris was born and raised in Enfield and graduated from Enfield High School. In 1944 she met her husband Gordon, and the two were engaged before he entered military service. After he was discharged from the Army, they were married and had a son, Douglas.

Doris worked as a cashier and clerk in retail, including the Triangle Department Store in Enfield. During World War II she volunteered for the Red Cross and for the United States Air Force. She received recognition as an honorary life member of the Air Defense Team for her voluntary and faithful service in the Ground Observer Corps.

Doris was very active in the Enfield United Methodist Church, and held many positions there, including President of the United Methodist Women, chair of the Administrative Board, and Financial Secretary. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was an active leader of the youth group. She was also a Cub Scout den mother. Doris was a valued member of the Lebanon chapter of the Emblem Club and was selected as Sister of the Year in 1974.

Doris was an avid bowler, having received numerous trophies and setting records in her bowling league. She also enjoyed dancing with Gordon, playing cards, taking walks in the countryside, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends, all of whom she cherished.

Doris is survived by her son Douglas and his wife Linda, her two grandchildren, Lindsay and Andrew, whom she adored, her sister Alice Chadbourne, and numerous nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her father, Charles Quimby, and mother, Mabel Austin Quimby, her sisters Gladys Quimby and Elizabeth Bushee, and her brothers Edward Quimby, Charles Quimby, Leonard Quimby, Arthur Quimby, and Daniel Quimby.

Calling hours will be held at Enfield United Methodist Church on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 10:30 am, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 am. Burial at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Enfield will be held immediately after the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Enfield United Methodist Church, of which Doris was a long-time member.
