Gary Smagula Obituary

Gary Smagula, 70, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2025, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on April 1, 1955, the son of the late Philip and Doris (Kirouac) Smagula, and was raised in Manchester, where he attended Manchester Memorial High School.

Gary was employed for 47 years by Tri-State Enterprises, where he formed lasting friendships and created memories he cherished throughout his life.

He found joy in working with his hands-woodworking, playing guitar, repairing arcade video games, and transforming his yard and home into a canvas for his creativity. He was deeply proud of his daughters and especially loved watching them play soccer from a young age through college. Holidays and special occasions meant a great deal to him, and he loved sharing them with family and friends, often opening his heart and home to welcome others as part of the family. His kindness, quick wit, generosity, and ability to see the bright side of life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by two sisters, Carol Smagula and Linda Smagula.

He is survived by his daughters, Christy Smagula and Lindsey Smagula (and her partner Darren Johnson); his sister Donna McDowell and her husband Jim; his brother Ron Smagula; his former wife and friend, Jane Smagula; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will remember him with love; and the family he gained through marriage, whom he loved as his own.

The family would like to thank Pathways Healthcare and Hospice for their compassion, humor, and unwavering commitment to treating Gary with dignity, allowing him to spend his final days at home surrounded by love. They also extend gratitude to Phaneuf Funeral Home and the New Hampshire Cremation Society for their thoughtful care and support.

In keeping with Gary's wishes, there will be no formal services. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. He will be remembered always with love, laughter, and gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's name to the American Cancer Society.
