LINCOLN -- George E. Babin, 82, of 24 Lincoln Green Road, died June 17, 2009, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Somerville, Mass., on Oct. 15, 1926, to George E. Babin Sr. and Margaret Beatrice Babin. He grew up in Somerville and was a 1944 graduate of Boston College High School.
He joined the U.S. Navy and was a fighter pilot during World War II.
Mr. Babin lived in Scituate, Mass., from 1964 to 1978 and in Thornton before moving to Lincoln in 2003.
A mechanical contractor, he was employed by Barber-Coleman and R.E. Bettencourt.
After moving to New Hampshire, he became a self-employed contractor
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Scituate, The American Legion Post 83 of Lincoln, and the Pemi River Yacht Club.
Mr. Babin was an avid skier. He also enjoyed sailing and traveling. In 2003, he returned to France, where he served during the war.
He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Anne, in 1996.
IN HIS LIFE: The family includes three sons, G. Michael Babin of Reno, Nev., Peter B. Babin and his wife, Mary E., of Littleton, Colo., and Steven P. Babin of Thornton; three daughters, Kim E. Stevens and her husband, Buddy, of East Bridgewater, Mass., M. Stacie Babin of Boston, Mass., and Kara L. Sellingham and her husband, Mark A., of Woodstock; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES: Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Edmund K. Fournier Funeral Home, 144 Main St., North Woodstock.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Joseph Church, Church Street, Lincoln, with the Rev. John MacKenzie as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln.
