Helen Metzger

DeBary, FL - Helen Lathrop Metzger, 91, of DeBary, Florida and Gilford, NH passed away on December 29, 2024 at Hospice Care in Orange City, Florida. She was born in Presque Isle, Maine, on January 20, 1933, the daughter of Roland and Mildred (MacDonald) Lathrop. Helen grew up in Presque Isle and was a member of the Presque Isle High School class of 1951.

After high school Helen began her working career with the Department of the Army in Washington, DC, also serving in Heidelberg, Germany and Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Returning to her roots in northern Maine she began a career in Civil Service at Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine. After marriage she moved to New Hampshire and worked in education with the Manchester School System before retiring.

Helen is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Metzger of DeBary, FL and Gilford, NH; son Terry Metzger and his wife Marieca of Plano, TX.; daughter Kimberly Bulger and her husband Christopher of Hooksett, NH. She is also survived by four granddaughters, Samantha and Danielle in Texas, Hailee and Mia in NH, and one grandson, Gunnar in NH. Also one great-grandson, Jason in Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, brothers Paul and Lynwood, and sisters Evelyn and Irene.

A private burial will take place later this year at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
