NORTH HAMPTON -- Isabelle M. Hobbs, 84, died July 14, 2009, at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born March 31, 1925, in North Hampton, to George and Esther (Gerry) Whenal. She lived in North Hampton all of her life in the house her husband built. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1943.
During World War II, she worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a timekeeper. She married John O. Hobbs of North Hampton on November 25, 1945. Her husband died on April 23, 1975.
After raising her family, she worked at Artisan Shoes and Diaphragm Industries in Portsmouth.
She enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Florida with her friends and family. Lunching with her sisters, following current events, reading biographies, writing to her many pen pals around the world, and spending time with her family were her favorite pastimes.
Family members include include her daughter, Linda O'Connor of Keene; three grandchildren; two sisters, Gloria Ajemian of North Hampton, and Marilyn Grant of Hampton; one brother, Adelbert Blaney of North Hampton; and nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: There are no visiting hours. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton.
Memorial donations may be made to Centennial Hall, 105 Post Road, PO Box 200, North Hampton, 03862.

Linda and family,
It was such a shock to see the notice online. She was such a wonderful person, a dear friend since our days at Artisan. After my marriage, we maintained our friendship via the mail, 30 years now, and I will miss her greatly. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
