James Johnson Obituary

KEENE - James F. Johnson, 62, died tragically Jan. 5, 2012, while vacationing in Arizona.

He was born March 4, 1949, in Keene, the son of Fred H. Johnson, Sr. and Pauline A. Johnson. He was a resident of Keene most of his life but had resided in Jaffrey the past three years.

He retired after a long and successful career with New England Telephone. During his retirement he held part-time jobs and most recently worked at Mount Monadnock State Park as a trail guide and park ranger.

He was an avid hiker and maintained trails for work and pleasure at both Mount Monadnock and the Mount Lafayette Greenleaf trail in the White Mountains. He was a member of the 4,000 Foot Club and founder of the Monadnock Mountain Club. He spent the last three winters exploring and hiking in the Midwest and Southwest.

Jim was a talented guitarist and enjoyed playing with friends. He loved music, old Corvettes and Mount Monadnock. Jim was kind, generous, caring, a helpful and loyal friend to many. He was a multi-talented jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything. His unique sense of humor was just one of his many special qualities. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Johnson and granddaughters Emily, Sarah and Abigail Hodsdon of Glenville, N.Y.; his brothers, Peter E. Johnson and his wife Debbie and Fred H. Johnson and his wife Allison, all of Keene; and David M. Johnson and his wife Marcy of Troy; his sisters, Kathleen Johnson Kaiser and her husband Paul of Denton, Md., and Karen Johnson Brum and her husband Jeff of Keene; former wife and good friend Barbara Johnson, her children Kenny Seigel, Stephanie Seigel and her fiancé, Josh Erickson, and several nieces and nephews.

Firstly, Jim was my dear cousin. I learned a lot from Mr fix it all. He also had this nice, calm, soft spoken way about him, you don't find in many people. He was nice and friendly to everyone. He was also very smart, helping, compasionate and caring for anyone who needed help or a guiding hand. Jim was also funny and great to be around.

I'm glad Jim and friend Carol came to visit me in my home last summer. It was a great 2 days and good quality time spent together.

If there is anything to be learned from this experience, its how to be kind to people.

Rest in peace Jim. You deserve only the best and I am sure you are in a place this IS the best right now. Cuz Rich from Rhode Island.
