A week ago Saturday night I was singing "I'll fly away" in my sleep according to my wife. The song director in church picked that very song on Sunday. The coincidence was uncanny, and a very beautiful song for a funeral. I am so sorry for the earthly loss of Uncle Jim and may he be rewarded with a crown in Heaven.

My dear friend, Phippie,

From each of us come prayers of condolence, but also of joy as we use those memories to perpetuate Jim and all he has meant to us, and stood for in our town we have called home for so long.
Love and hugs to you, and to Jim Jr., Peter, John, David, Mary Anne, and their families ~

Dear Eileen and family,
I have a lasting memory of bike-riding with my older sister Bethany up to Grandpa Bob and Grandma Jo's house in Groveton, only to see Jimmy's hearse parked in the driveway. I remember the two of us freaking out and riding back home on our bikes to get our father to come back up with us so that we could find out what was wrong. Needless to say, Eileen and Jimmy had gone up for a visit, in the hearse, of all things, and everything was just fine!

I'm sure this is only one of many antics that Jimmy and my Grandfather have gotten themselves into over the years. His sense of humor will greatly be missed by all of us.

I was so sadden to open the paper this morning and see his name. I remember him from the days of the store, building the funeral home in Plymouth and many years of kindness and friendship. Jim Mayhew was one of the few "People Funeral Directors" I have ever met. A good man, honest, professional and sincere. He once told me a life worth living is one worth remembering, well, memories last forever.
God Speed Jim.

Dear, Dear, Mayhews,
I write this with tears in my eyes, remembering "big" Jim, and his constant humor when I was a kid growing up on Buckland Avenue, next door to you on Silver Lane. Jim made his car (with us in it) have "hiccups" on the rolling, stomach-butterfly-inducing "bumps" of Rte 175 in Campton, a tradition I carried on for my own children. Jim will be missed -- my thoughts are with you all.
