Jeryl Frankenfield Obituary

HANOVER - Jeryl Landis Frankenfield, 63, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon while under hospice care, with his family at his side.

Jerry was born on May 19, 1952, in Sellersville, Pa. He graduated from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School, Lansdale, Pa., in 1970. He married Patricia J. Louzier of Lebanon on June 16, 1979.

Jerry came to Hanover as a conscientious objector and fulfilled his service at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in 1972. From there he started a 42-year career for the town of Hanover in the Hanover Fire Department holding various roles, most recently as deputy fire chief/fire marshal. He was a deliberate person who valued codes, rules and regulations with the goal of making Hanover and the Dartmouth College campus a safer place.

Jerry was industrious and skilled in many trades. His motto for work was: "Be the job big or small do it well or not at all." He had a passion for mentoring and staying connected with family, friends and colleagues. He was an avid collector of antique John Deere tractors and was a member of multiple tractor clubs. Jerry was an active Rotarian and an annual volunteer for the Hanover High School Project Graduation. He enjoyed Dartmouth hockey games, NASCAR races, deep-sea fishing in Maine, and he rarely missed the "Saturday Morning Breakfast Group."

His mother, Susan C. Frankenfield, preceded Jerry in death. He is survived by his father, Earl D. Frankenfield, and wife Irene of Harleysville, Pa.; wife Pat of Hanover; children Emily Frankenfield of Madison, Wis., and Jeryl Frankenfield Jr. of White River Junction, Vt.; and granddaughter Olyve Ivy Frankenfield. He also is survived by brothers John L. Frankenfield and his wife, Jane, of Harleysville, Pa., David L. Frankenfield and his wife, Shirley, of Royersford, Pa., Dale L. Frankenfield and his wife, Deanie, of Elroy, Pa., E. Dean Frankenfield and his wife, Marlene, of Souderton, Pa., James L. Frankenfield and his wife, Carole, of Moraga, Calif., Steven J. Frankenfield and his wife, Julie, of Perkasie, Pa.; brother-in-law Richard Louzier Jr. and his wife, Linda, of White River Junction, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry's family would like to thank the palliative care staff at Dartmouth-Hitchcock as well as his nursing staff, Bayada Hospice and the doctors and nurses at Alice Peck Day Hospital.

Seems hard to think that you have passed and 4 years have already gone by. I think of you and you how you sought to find the "high ground" in a problem or disagreement. You were appreciated by many during your life, and you continue to be remembered for how you lived and treated others. Like many others, I miss you.

Pat, Emily and Jeryl,

I am sad to hear of Jerry's passing. Although I hadn't seen him in a few years, I always think of him when I come to Hanover to visit my Dad. I will always remeber Jerry and a good and decent man. Soft spoken and big hearted. He will be missed by many.
