BILLERICA, Mass. -- John A. Kula, 99, formerly of Wellfleet and Woburn, died Oct. 16, 2008, at Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley.
He was born in Manchester, N.H., the son of Albert J. Kula and Anna (Marek) Kula.
Mr. Kula had been on the board of directors of Woburn Cooperative Bank and Woburn YMCA. He was acting secretary for Manchester YMCA for 13 years. Mr. Kula was a trustee for First Congregational Church of Wellfleet.
He belonged to Woburn Kiwanis Club, Orleans-Eastham Elks Lodge, Adams Lodge AF&AM in Wellfleet, Talbot Lodge AF&AM in Billerica, Aleppo Temple Shriners , and volunteered at Camp Middlesex, Ashby.
He belonged to Billerica Senior Center and Council on Aging. In his younger years, he ran several Boston Marathons.
Mr. Kula was co-owner of the former F.M. Case Pharmacy, Woburn, retiring in 1974.
He was predeceasd by his wife, Freda M. (Case) Kula.
The family includes two sons, Donald A. Kula of Nashua, N.H., and John D. Kula of Woburn; one daughter, Joanne D. Pendergast of Billerica; one sister, Stella Beliveau of Manchester; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was precdeceased by a son, Frederick A. Kula.
SERVICES: A funeral service is Monday at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Billerica, 18 Andover Road, Billerica.
Burial will be in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Road, Billerica, MA 01821. Arrangements by Graham Funeral Home, Woburn.
