I'm watching WE WERE SOLDIERS.A sad movie, but a good movie. It reminds us to be grateful for our freedom, and those of you who fight for it for us. With tears in my eyes, and pain in my chest I remember all you and other soldiers went through. I'm so sorry Joe, and I salute YOU.I know you are with God and the Angels, and they are happy to have you.I'm betting you have Big Wings! Miss all of you Joe, and everything you were. Love, Dianne

You were a great influence on me Joe. I remember the first time I saw you, I thought When I become your age, If I can still be that cool and that fit, I'll be just fine. I have learned since that life is not all about fitness of the body and I am putting in great effort on fixing that. Nevertheless, I am now the "Hair Apparent" and I will gladly wear that hat! See you the next time I see you, this life or next.

Joe, you were so much more than you thought you were. You were special to so many people. I have thought often of one of your frequent responses to an invitation. "I'd be delighted!"
I hear your voice in so many ways, whether it was imitations of Mohammed Ali, Grocho Marx, Rodney Dangerfield, or Aunt Ida and others.
Today, Nov. 27, 2011 is a year that you left for a better place. For the rest of my life I will miss you and your funny, thoughtful ways.
Love from your big sister, June

HEY JOE,
WENT TO SEE YOU AT MT. CALVARY TODAY . I'M SURE YOU KNEW.
I STOPPED BY YOUR HOUSE THE OTHER DAY FOR ABOUT AN HOUR .I BROUGHT THE THREE DOGS WITH ME . THEY JUST LOVE RUNNING AROUND THERE SNIFFING EVERYTHING THEIR EYES CAN SEE!!! AND NOW TIA DOESN'T HAVE TO STAND UP TO KOEHLER. IT SEEMS SO LONELY NOT TO HAVE YOU COMING OUT TO WALK AROUND THE YARD. I CAN JUST HEAR YOU TALKING ABOUT THE THINGS YOU ARE GOING TO FIX UP AND PLANT . THE PLANTS I GAVE YOU ARE STARTING TO WAKE UP AND THEY MEAN WAY MORE NOW.
I MISS YOU SO MUCH
LOVE YOU ALWAYS , MARTY

My sincerest condolences to the Gelinas family. I worked with Joey beginning April of 1972 in the printing industry. We used to run together, back then, from time to time. I mostly remember his laughter, his strength, his constant smile and good nature. He was always willing to help others. He’d do anything for anyone. We shared a common bond being in the service back in Vietnam era. It’s amazing how sometimes people cross paths and walk the same path for a short while and then go our separate ways. I think to myself how lucky I was to walk with Joey. In our lives we sometimes meet someone who can touch a heart. For me, Joey was one of those few people. I will miss him and think of him often. How lucky I am to know Joey.

"Good Morning Joey". Say this to your picture every day! Forty-five years. Seems like yesterday we first met. You won my heart at the first smile.I still have all the gifts you sent me from Viet Nam. The pics you sent, my favorite is the one holding the baby boxing gloves I sent you. I am glad our friendship was always there, sharing happy times as well as many tears. The motorcycle rides, the vette rides. I still have both of mine. I'll treasure the memories, and they'll remain in my heart. Hope you liked the flag I brought. I'll continue to visit you. As Marty stated, there just isn't enough room to share it all. Love

THE ONLY THING THAT HELPS TO DULL THE HEARTACHE IS KNOWING YOU ARE IN A BETTER PLACE WITH NO MORE PAIN .NO ONE OUTSIDE THE FAMILY WILL EVER KNOW HOW GREAT IT WAS TO HAVE YOU AS A SIBLING .YOU USED TO PIN ME DOWN AND "TORTURE " ME BY TICKLING ME , I COULDEN'T GET UP AND WAS TRYING TO GET MAD ENOUGH TO YELL TO MA BUT I COULDEN'T BECAUSE I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD! FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY I WOULD MAKE YOU DEVILED EGGS ,YOU LOVED THEM . I COULD GO ON AND ON BUT THERE JUST ISN'T ENOUGH SPACE FOR WRITING ,AND THE PAIN JUST KEEPS COMING ON THROUGH.
I LOVE YOU ALWAYS,

To me, a youger cousin, Joey was a larger than life, hard working, fun loving, nature loving, hunk of a guy. I remember his "training" of a squirrel that he let crawl all over us on one of our many visits to my cherished Aunt Bea's home on Garland. About 25 years ago Joey drove an old restored Chevy p.u. all the way to California pretty much to just say hi. Amazing! Can't believe he's gone. Will have the image of his huge grin emblazened on my mind forever. My sincerest best wishes to my great cousins he left behind.

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. Joe was a great guy and fun to be around. I met Joe in the YMCA weight room over forty years ago at the time of his separation from the service. We all used to hit many of the local night spots after our workouts had been completed. My recollection is that whenever I or one of the other guys played a prank on a befuddled cocktail waitress or bartender, it was always Joe who was laughing the loudest. That probably explains why Joe was so often blamed for our missdeeds. He'll be missed.

I will always remember Joey for his big broad smile and his willingness to help the kids at the PAL . In the early 90's when PAL did not have a permanent place, we bounced around several gyms around the city,he would always find us for the expressed purpose of devoting his time and effort in working with the kids. Always a great person to share a conversation with weather it be for laughs or on a more personnel note, he was always willing to lend an ear.The many hours that I spent with him were hours well spent and will be one of the more cherished moments in my life..
