Joseph Kane Obituary

Joseph "Tony" Anthony Kane, Jr., 77, of Bedford, NH, died November 8, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family, following complications due to Covid-19.

Born in Lynn, MA on February 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Joseph Anthony and Lois (Grace) Kane. He was raised in Swampscott, MA before settling in New Hampshire in 1967.

Tony graduated from Swampscott High School, Class of 1961, where he excelled as a student and athlete. He earned a bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1965, followed by an MBA degree from Boston University.

Until his retirement, Tony was a successful sales representative with IBM for over 30 years. As testament to his hard work and dedication, Tony earned the 100% Club Award - a prize for salespeople who exceed their annual quotas - twenty-six times. He also received eight Golden Circle Awards from IBM, which celebrates the top 10% of performers in the company.

Tony was a life-long gardener and an avid New England Sports fan. He enjoyed playing sports throughout his life whether it was pond hockey as a child, softball with his work buddies, and golfing with his wife and friends. Perhaps one of his greatest joys was skiing at Waterville Valley for more than forty years with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. Devoted to his faith, he was a communicant of Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford.

Tony was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His family was a source of great joy to him, and he was especially fond of their time spent together. He was a loyal friend to many whom he considered family. He leaves a rich legacy of love, generosity, compassion, kindness, faith, and an unforgettable sense of humor. Tony will be missed deeply and will always hold an honored place in the history of his family.

Family members include his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Eileen (Flaherty) Kane; two daughters, Lissa Kane and her partner, Earl Carson, of Portland, OR and Janet Osterlind and her husband, Ryan, of North Reading, MA; a son, Bill Kane and his wife, Caroline, of Tewksbury, MA; four grandchildren, Kiera, Taylor, Joseph, and Edward; a brother, David Kane and his wife, Maryanne, of Chevy Chase, MD; a sister, Ellen Treat and her husband, James, of Waban, MA; many cousins, including Peter Hayes and his wife, Marie, of Naples, FL, with whom he was very close; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen (Bond) Kane.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Maple Leaf HealthCare Center for their kindness, care and compassion over the last few months.
