Joyce Cavanaugh Obituary

SALEM - Joyce Marie Cavanaugh, 88, of Salem, NH passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Carlyle Place, Bedford, NH. She was born in Portsmouth, NH, a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Hooper) Carter.

Mrs. Cavanaugh was educated in Portsmouth schools and graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1947. She went to work for the ship yard PX and that's where she met her husband William J. Mrs. Cavanaugh was a communicant of Mary Queen of Peace; her faith and religion was very important to her. She always put everyone else's needs before her own, making her a very beloved person and she touched many people's lives. She was the Ambassador of Carlyle Place, enjoyed current events, music, reading, animals, being a practical joker and she loved life. Mrs. Cavanaugh was very involved in her grandchildren's lives and was a lot of love in a small package. ""I met a new friend today,"" she was known to say often.

She is survived by her son, William ""Billy"" J. Cavanaugh and his significant other Doreen Palmer of Manchester, NH; three grandchildren, Margaret Cavanaugh of Manchester, Elizabeth Marshall and her husband Philip of Eliot, ME and Mary Kate Cavanaugh of Manchester; three great-grandchildren, Nolan Cavanaugh, Orson Marshall and Angalina Marshall; and nieces and nephews and her good friend, Kathy Cavanaugh. I will miss your Moms smiling face at the Carlyle, in fact I already have. The next time I hear a Frank Sinatra song I will think of her for sure. My sympathy to the family.

The best part about dating Billy for 9 years was having Joyce as my surrogate mother and BFF.
Joyce never met a stranger...she would make friends EVERYWHERE. Her laugh was infectious.
Heaven is lucky to have her!
LOVE YOU JOYCE

Dear Billy, Your Mom was such a special lady. I have such fond memories of her (and you). She never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything. She was sweet, loving, completely genuine and a true gift for anyone who got to know her. I know my Mom will miss her dearly. You are one very lucky man to have been able to call her Mom. I hope you find peace in knowing that your Dad will take good care of her now. Bless you and your Family Hugs

Dear Cavanaugh Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss, your Law Enforcement Family has you in our thoughts/prayers and although there's nothing we can do to make it all better, please know we're here for you! Try to stay positive and hopefully find some comfort in knowing your mother/grandmother/great grandmother has moved on to a better place. I still remember when I met Joyce on Memorial Day several years ago and even though I didn't know her very well, I felt like I got to know her through Billy since we share an office and I was often part of their conversations and for that I am honored, she will be missed dearly.

Dear Billy and family,
What a treasure Joyce was - she touched everyone she met and made their lives that much better. I know she enriched my life exponentially. I will always be thankful for her kind, loving manner. She was so much fun. I hope heaven is ready for her.
