Lanny Van de Bogart Obituary

Lanny Edward Van de Bogart

Davenport, FL, Lanny Edward Van de Bogart, 87, passed away on May 1, 2023 peacefully at the home of his son, Mark after a short period of failing health. He was predeceased by Lora, his wife of 59 years, in 2016.

Lanny was born in Weare, NH. He enlisted in the United States Army when he was still a teenager and was honorably discharged in 1956. He met his wife Lora in March of 1957 and married her in June of the same year. Lanny held many jobs as a young husband and father and juggled as many as three at a time. He was a janitor at Londonderry Central School in the early 1960's. He also worked for Sears and Roebuck in Manchester and Moore Trucking and Sunnycrest Farms in Londonderry. In 1964, he became a Volunteer Firefighter in Londonderry. He helped to establish what would become the town's Little League Association and assisted in the building of the town's first athletic fields. He was hired as a full-time firefighter in 1972, promoted to Lieutenant in 1974 and to Deputy Chief in 1978. He served under Chief David Hicks until becoming Chief himself in 1989. He retired from that post in 1992 and he and his wife moved to Port Orange, FL, travelling North to spend summers with family. He remained in Florida after his wife's death in 2016 and only recently moved in with his eldest son, Mark and daughter-in-law Tammy in Davenport, FL as his health began to fail. His final days were filled with love in the arms of family and faith that when it was over, he would be in the arms of his Father.

Lanny is survived by his daughter, Cathy Graveline and son-in-law David of Londonderry, his son, Mark and daughter-in-law Tammy of Davenport, FL and son ,Jeffery and daughter-in-law Dawn of Manchester, NH. He leaves his biggest fans, granddaughter Amy Gossel and great-grandaughter, Layla Hirsch of Londonderry, grandson Adam Gossel, wife Crissy and great-grandson Colin of Derry, granddaughter Sara Graveline of Salem, granddaughter, Ashley Syrett and husband David and great-granddaughters, Poppy and Madelyn of Davenport, FL, granddaughter Rachel and grandson Kyle Van de Bogart of Manchester. Lanny is also survived by three of his eight siblings, his sister Judy, his brother Raymond and his brother Jan as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in law. He leaves countless friends from his church families, sailing clubs ,his fellow NASCAR fans and his Port Orange neighbors. He will be remembered for his bright blue eyes and ready smile, his love and steadfastness as a family man, for his honesty and humility as a public servant and finally, as a servant of God called home to rest.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 9 - 11am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Londonderry.
