Linda Greenwood

Linda Jean (Pelletier) Greenwood, 78, of Dalton, NH, passed away peacefully at home on October 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born in Derry, NH, Linda was the second of four children of Leo and Priscilla (Low) Pelletier. She graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1965, where she met the love of her life, Gary Greenwood, in Geometry class. The two went on to share 56 wonderful years of marriage.

Linda earned her B.S. in Education from the University of New Hampshire and dedicated her career to teaching mathematics at Salem High School, Exeter High School, and ultimately at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, where she earned tenure and inspired generations of students.

Her passion for learning emerged early-family often recalled how disappointed she was when her older sister started school without her. At Pinkerton, Linda was deeply involved in student life, serving as Class Vice President and participating in Field Hockey, Basketball, French Club, English Club, Glee Club, Pep Club, Yearbook, Chorus, Band, and the National Honor Society. She and Gary were also voted "Most Popular" their senior year-an honor she carried with a mix of pride and humor.

Always committed to growth in her profession, Linda returned to UNH to earn her Master's degree in Mathematics in 1994. She later became Chair of the Mathematics Department at Pinkerton Academy. In recognition of her dedication and lifelong contributions to the school, she was inducted into the Pinkerton Academy Hall of Fame in 2006.

Outside the classroom, Linda lived a full and creative life. A talented and passionate quilter, she was an active member of the Littleton Quilt Guild, the Sew-Flakes, and the Sew Far North Quilts of Valor group. Through Quilts of Valor, she lovingly crafted quilts for veterans and took great pride in participating in heartfelt presentation ceremonies.

Linda also served her community as treasurer of the Dalton Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club and for the Town of Dalton. A lifelong snowmobiler, she and Gary shared countless miles of adventure together. Their love of travel brought them to Ecuador, Germany, England, Mexico, Alaska, the Dominican Republic, many U.S. National Parks, and most recently, a memorable cruise down the Mississippi River.

Known for her dry wit and warm presence, Linda brought joy everywhere she went. She famously introduced herself to her geometry students as "Mrs. Beanwood," and once, when asked what type of snowmobile she owned, simply replied, "red." Her humor and laughter-especially during quilting weekends with her sisters and dear friends-were beloved by many.

Curious, compassionate, and thoughtful, Linda had a gift for making every person feel seen and valued. She asked great questions, listened deeply, and brought optimism and kindness to every conversation. More than anything, Linda cherished her family. Her four granddaughters were her greatest source of joy, and she treasured cheering on their activities, sharing stories, cooking, sewing, and celebrating life with them.

Linda is survived by her husband, Gary; her sons Todd Greenwood and his wife Rebecca, and their daughters Taylor and Skye of Alton, NH; and Craig Greenwood and his daughters Averie and Rylee of Allenstown, NH. She is also survived by her sister Jane Graham and husband David of Lisbon, NH; her brother James Pelletier and wife Lynda of Candia, NH; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leo and Priscilla Pelletier of Sandown, NH, and her sister Sandra Goodchild and husband Alan of Danbury, NH.

The Greenwood family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many friends and loved ones who called, sent cards, prepared meals, and visited Linda during her illness. Your kindness made her final months deeply meaningful.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for the spring of 2026, details yet to be determined.
