Monique Brady Obituary

Monique C. "Mona" Brady, 83, of East Stroudsburg, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.

She was the widow of Charles T. Brady who died in 1976.

Born January 26, 1933 in Sherbrook, Canada she was the daughter of the late Roger and Alice Lappiere.

Mona, a young girl from Canada, started her career when she moved to Bridgewater, Connecticut as a Seamstress for a small garment manufacturer. She met her future husband Charles while she was working at the House of Bianchi in Boston. Though she was a seamstress she had an eye for production and efficiency, and stream lined the production of wedding gowns. In 1976 she lost her husband and was left alone with two young boys, Brian 13 and Paul 9. Nothing deterred Mona from moving forward, she took a chance and in 1977 started her own business, Londonderry Village Sportswear in Londonderry, New Hampshire. She grew the business, expanded her building and at one point had two shifts working. She made clothing for companies such as Paul Sullivan and Garland Corp. In 1982 she sold her business wanting to spend more time with her boys. She entered the corporate world of high fashion quality control for companies such as Jones of New York, Leslie Fay and others. Her career gave her the opportunity to travel and she did. Mona went around the world many times visiting places like Egypt, China, Ukraine, Panama, Costa Rica, England and many more. In 2001 she retired and moved to the Poconos, loving the small town of Stroudsburg. Not ever really retiring she opened Alterations by Monique and became known in the area for the quality of work she did for many graduates, brides and even a few U.S. Marshals.

In 1994 she had her first granddaughter, Amanda followed in 1998 by her second granddaughter, Courtney. In 2010 she saw her family grow even more with the birth of her first grandson, Sean followed by her second grandson Patrick. She loved and cherished the time she had with her grandkids. She spent time watching them get off and on the bus and this year she was able to attend Amanda's graduation from Penn State University and Courtney's graduation from Pocono Mt. West. Nana was so proud of her granddaughters, both excellent students with Deans list 4 years in a row for Amanda and Courtney graduating with distinguished honors. In the past six years her grandsons meant so much to her and gave her much joy. The boys spent lots of time with their Nanny and she was always ready with a treat for them when they came to visit her just down the stairs. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time working on her flower beds and planting trees with her grandchildren. Mona cherished the outdoors and loved to go fishing, making sure to catch more than everyone else! She loved to ski with her boys and nephews Bob and Jerry and did so up until she was in her late 70's. More than anything she was our Mom and we loved her dearly and will miss her.

Surviving are two sons, Brian and his wife Yufeng of East Stroudsburg and Paul and his wife Christy of Blakeslee; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, Sean and Patrick.

Visitation hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 6:00 to 8:00PM on Wednesday, July 20, at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday, July 21, at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, 200 Brodhead Avenue, East Stroudsburg with Rev. Joseph Mosley as celebrant. Burial will take place on Saturday, July 23, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry, NH.

My precious Brian and Paul. This is Mary Meranda, who lived next door to you on Second Street in Cambridge, so long ago. We used to go to your house in NH when you moved until your beloved father passed away and even a bit after. I have thought of you often.

My sister Linda found your mom and I believe my mother and your mother shared some correspondence.

I have wonderful memories being with you and your family and I am truly sorry for your loss. I truly loved your parents!

I have 3 girls, and my oldest is getting married. We went dress shopping today and my mom mentioned your mother had passed. My mom is 88 years old, sharp as a tack and living in independent/assisted living. We lost my precious father in 2011. Obviously, being around wedding dresses made me think of your mom even more. I know she was looking down on us, and Katie found the dress of her dreams!

[email protected] Please write back, I would love to hear from you! I hope you remember me! My sister Ruthie used to be your babysitter and your mom made our gowns for Ruthie's wedding over 40 years ago!

Love to All! Congrats on all the kiddos!

Deepest condolences to Brian and Paul. Your family always held a special place in my heart, your Dad's kindness to me and your Mom's sweetness and welcoming home on Franklin Avenue.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you Brian and Paul along with your families. I remember your mother as being a very strong but fair women as we grew up on Franklin Street dealing with all of us rowdy boys. It sounds like she had a very full and rewarding life which I'm sure you are very grateful for. May God bless you with only great memories of you mom.

I had hoped to see her again. She had mentioned back in the 80's that she would retire to the Poconos! She brought me to House of Bianchi where she taught me to stitch. At a later date she hired me on at Londonderry Village Sportswear. Wish you all the best.
