Raymond Wieczorek Obituary

Raymond J. Wieczorek, 93, of Manchester, died November 22, 2022 at Catholic Medical Center after a brief period of declining health.

He was born in New Britain, CT on December 9, 1928 to Stanley and Bertha (Sidor) Wieczorek. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Ray founded Wieczorek Insurance Agency in Manchester in 1964. He was involved actively with many Manchester area non-profits and then served in local and state governments in many capacities, including Mayor of Manchester for five terms from 1990 to 2000 and then as an Executive Councilor for the State of NH for six terms from 2002 to 2012.

He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending and supporting many local and New England Sporting events. One of the things he thoroughly enjoyed was his assumed role of Mayor of Dunkin Donuts and the time he got to spend with his friends and companions solving or debating the issues of the day.

He was predeceased by his wives, Cathleen Connare and Susan Kramas and his brother, Edward Wieczorek.

Ray is survived by three children, Lee Anne McCarthy and her husband, Allen "Jay", of Hampton Falls, Robert Wieczorek and his wife, Brenda Colton, of Bedford and James Wieczorek and his wife, Kate, of Malvern, PA; three step-children, David Connare and his wife, Jessica, of Manchester, Patricia Connare and her partner, Dan Chase, of Gilford, and Christen Bergeron and her husband, Matthew, of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Carolyn, Caitlin, Colleen, Reagan, Grace, Cole and Jack; a sister, Barbara Walewski of Stratford, CT and Ellen Connare of Manchester, and cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to recognize in particular the extremely kind and compassionate care provided by the nurses, doctors and staff of Catholic Medical Center as well as the many other care providers who had provided support over the last few years.

SERVICES: Calling hours are Sunday (11/27) from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (11/28) at 12 p.m. at St. Catherine Church, 267 Webster St., Manchester. Committal prayers will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire, P.O. Box 3968, Manchester, NH 03105. This is a non-profit that Ray convinced to come to Manchester in 1992 and he recently mentioned it as being one of his proudest accomplishments.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family.
Ray was a longtime family friend, and when our dad was ill, Ray would come and sit and talk for hours-these visits meant the world to us
It always made me happy when I would drive by Dunkin´s and see his car-that meant I would get to stop in and talk, and meet whatever group of friends he would be with that day.
I will sincerely miss those visits.
He had a sparkle that would light up the room-he will be sorely missed by many people.
All our love from the Argue family

My deepest condolences to the Wieczorek family. Ray was an incredible man who really cared about people and served his community well. I am grateful for the years I worked at the Wieczorek Agency and the time spent helping out on Ray's campaign when he was our Mayor. I will always remember seeing him at the 4:00 mass at St. Catherine's - back row! He always had a smile and a hug for me. He was one of the best! He will be missed. Rest in Peace, Ray

A life of selfless service to a community he loved. Ray was the perfect example of what being a "politician" is supposed to be like. A true gentleman, a friend to everyone he knew. My heartfelt condolences to the Wieczorek family.

Dear Lee Anne, Rob, and James,
To you I send my deepest condolences. I wish I could be in Manchester tomorrow. If I can pay my resect from here from home, it is just as heart felt.
My father Joe loved Ray. Ray loved Joe.
So, for the rest of my life, every time I go up Rt. 3 and pass under the Raymond Wieczorek Highway, like this morning, I say a little prayer....
Love,
Tim

Mayor Ray will always hold a special place in my heart. Such a genial man loved by many. His vision for Manchester and its long-term economic growth through the Verizon/SNHU Arena and the Manchester Airport expansion will cement his great legacy for generations. Not many like him around anymore. One of NH´s greats. May he rest in eternal peace. I will miss him.

May your memory be Eternal Ray! You will be missed and your absence will be felt immensely! Ray was such an effective elected representative of the prople, that he was able to reach across the aisle as a bipartisan professional and get things done. He was definitely the best mayor of Manchester in my lifetime. Ray was one of the only living politicians I knew that had a stretch of roadway named after him while he was still alive. I've had so many great conversations with Ray having coffee pre-covid almost daily at Webster Street Dunkin' Donuts. It won't be the same without him and the other guys who passed on from the round table of daily fellowship discussing the events of the day. I will cherish these times and memories forever. I so enjoyed your friendship and political intellect. I've learned a lot from you Ray. Thanks for your friendship. May your memory be eternal!

Lee Anne and Family,

Sorry to hear of Dad's passing. In recent years I would see him in Blake's, the Backroom or similar fun spots with his remaining friend entourage. He had a good life and was well liked and respected by all. As we Irish say: May the road rise to meet him...RIP
