Richard Morrissette Obituary

Richard Daniel Morrissette, son of J. Robert and Therese (Nadeau)Morrissette, passed away on the last day of summer, September 21, 2025, after a long struggle against cancer. "I'm gonna beat this thing", he often said. He never quit; he never gave up.

A native of the Granite State, New Hampshire, Mr. Morrissette loved going to the beach, the mountains, and boating on the lakes, especially Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, and Murray Lake in Oklahoma. He practiced law in Oklahoma City for 40 years, always a fierce advocate for his clients and the people of Oklahoma. He was proud to call Oklahoma home.

Richard was also a consummate athlete and sports fan who relished being on the field, the court, the ice, or the ski slopes. He hated to lose.He consumed anything related to New England sports teams, Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, Celtics and was a die-hard UNH

Wildcats and Sooners booster. He was also proud to be a member of the 1972

Somersworth High School "Hilltoppers" State Championship football team. He was still playing baseball and softball while undergoing chemotherapy.

Raised in Somersworth, NH, Richard graduated from SHS in 1974 and received his BA in economics and political science from the University of New Hampshire in 1979. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1984.

Mr. Morrissette served many ways over the years in the public arena. Politics was an itch he had to scratch. He is one of a few to be elected to the State Legislature from two different states. While still an undergraduate at UNH he was elected to the New Hampshire General Court (House of Representatives) in 1976 and served two terms there. He was also a NH delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1976. In 2004 he was elected as a Democrat in ruby red Oklahoma to serve House District 92 , serving 12 years until he was term limited. Mr. Morrissette appeared frequently over the years as a guest on the discussion show "Your Vote Counts" Richard was also a member of the Lions Club, the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, South Oklahoma City Rotary and the YMCA.

Richard is survived by his brothers: David and his partner, Martine; James and his wife Ann; his sister Denise, and numerous nephews and nieces. He also leaves behind his faithful partner of 20 years, Carolyn; her son Edward and daughter Catherine, husband

Leo, and their children: McKinly, Ty, Leo, and Micah. He also had a daughter Danielle.

Many thanks also to the persistent and loyal staff at the Morrissette Law Firm: Gioia and Mandy.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Martin's Church, Parish of St. Ignatius-Loyola, Somersworth, NH, on Thursday October 2 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvaire Cemetery. Friends may call Wed. Oct.1 from 6 to 8 PM at R. M. Edgerly & Son 86 South Main St. Rochester NH to sign the online guestbook go to www.RobergeFH.com .
