Ronald Burt Obituary

Ronald A. Burt of Hooksett, N.H., and Trinity, Fla., passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 22, 2021, at his Florida home. He was 78 years old.

Born in Lynn, Mass., on Nov. 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Doris B. (Gray) Burt.

Ron grew up in Maynard, Mass., and graduated from Maynard High School in 1960. He attended UMass Amherst for his undergraduate degree graduating in 1964. He was then drafted into the Army and served most of his two-year term at Ft. McClellan in Alabama before being discharged in 1966. He continued his education at Boston University graduating with his Master's degree in Mathematics in 1968.

During his professional career, Ron taught high school math in Maine and Massachusetts before becoming a civilian employee for the Air Force. Most of this career was spent as a computer specialist working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He retired after 30 years working for the government.

While a student at UMass, Ron was on the Bridge team and continued to play competitive Bridge his whole life. He enjoyed traveling around the country to participate in tournaments and achieved the level of Gold Life Master. He was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams, especially the Celtics and Patriots. He also enjoyed college basketball. Ron was an accomplished pianist and sang in his church choir in N.H. He also liked going to the beach, daily workouts at the gym and gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Peoples and her husband, Ron. He is survived by his brother Bob and his wife Marsha of Bourne, Mass., and his sister Cindi Menard and her husband Lionel of Kennebunk, Maine. Although he never married or had children of his own, he was blessed and proud of his eight nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews whom he cared deeply for.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Hookset in Hooksett, N.H. Ron will be interred at the National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass., at a later date. I had Ron as a math teacher when i attended M.C.I. in Pittsfield, Me. in 1969. I lived in Rowe Hall and so did he. He was a good guy, a good teacher and had a good sense of humor. Sorry for your loss.

Our sympathy to Ron's family, we were shocked and saddened to learn of his death last year. Susan and I sadly missed his memorial in Hooksett. Ron and I were Bridge partners on many occasions in NH as well as in FL, and he has been missed by many other bridge playing friends in the NH Bridge Association community.
