Stanley Gutowski Obituary

PENACOOK - Stanley A. Gutowski, 89, died Aug. 4, 2011, after a brief illness.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1921, in Philadelphia, the son of Walter and Anna (Wykowski) Gutowski. He spent the early portion of his life in Camden, N.J., and graduated from Camden Vocational Technical School.

He joined the New Jersey National Guard and was activated at the start of World War II. During the course of his military career, which spanned from World War II through Korea to Vietnam, he became a commissioned officer and retired as a lieutenant colonel.

In the 1960s, he worked for Brown Company in Berlin and the U.S. Postal Service, and later became the truancy counselor at Merrimack Valley High School.

In the years following Stanley's retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, often going to various military retirement reunions. Stanley also enjoyed working with ceramics, tinkering around the house and going for walks with his beloved dogs.

Stanley was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ruth (Hamlin) Gutowski.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Letman of Newport; sons Roy Gutowski of Clarksville, Pa., Walter S. of Lusby, Md., David of Penacook, Robert of Long Island, N.Y., and Donald of Penacook; his sister, Fay Kasinski of Newport; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Walter J. Gutowski.

SERVICES: A memorial service for Stanley and his wife, Ruth, is Thursday at 2 p.m. in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, in Boscawen.
