Terrence Goonan Obituary

Terrence "Terry" Kevin Goonan, Sr., of Weare, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a nearly two-year battle against glioblastoma May 9, 2023. Terry was 63 years old.

Terry was born April 26, 1960, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the son of the late Michael T. Goonan and Emily (Peters) Goonan. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Michael P. Goonan and Glen J. Beauchemin. He is survived by his wife Linda Louise Goonan, whom he married July 2, 2016, son Brien (Jennifer) Goonan of Thomasville, North Carolina, daughter Emily Goonan of Deering, New Hampshire, and son Terrence "TJ" (Kelly) Goonan, Jr., of Saint Cloud, Florida; grandchildren Riley, William, Xander, Lilith, and Eire. He also leaves behind his 13 siblings: Robert Goonan, Sean Goonan, James Goonan, Kathleen (Goonan) Salta, Thomas Goonan, Thomas Beauchemin, Susan (Beauchemin) Benson, Peter Beauchemin, James Beauchemin, and Nancy (Beauchemin) Gasseau.

Terry served four years in the U.S. Army as a transport operator, a meaningful time in his life and he would often recall the time he awoke in his Alaskan tent next to a bear. Upon leaving the Army, he acquired a position as a maintenance supervisor at the Hillsboro County Nursing Home from which he retired after a 27-year career. This busy-body refused to become accustomed to retired life, so he quickly landed a job at the Country 3 Corners lumber yard where he had the pleasure of working for last 17 years.

A skilled laborer and carpenter, lazy was a term that did not exist in his vocabulary or life. He single- handedly built a significant addition to his late mother's cabin and had been working on renovating the kitchen and living room areas. Additionally, he built a large barn for his wife that currently houses her beloved farm animals; two horses, two goats, a mini and a donkey.

Terry had the uncanny ability to crack a good dad joke and had such a quick wit he often left those around him bewildered and smiling. When he wasn't working, tinkering or building, he enjoyed spending time with his family, taking hikes and paddle boating with his wife, treating his sweet tooth with ice cream cake, grilling a good steak, stoking the coals of a bonfire on a cool New England fall night, and soaking in the scenery of Bar Harbor, Maine.

In keeping with Terry's wishes, cremation arrangements will be handled by French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 South Mast Street, Goffstown, N.H. A service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, with calling hours from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. A brief memorial service will be immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made towards a memorial site that will be built in his honor. Additionally, the family asks for awareness of glioblastoma cancer research.

To Linda, Brien, Emily and Terry,
I´m so saddened to hear of Terry´s passing. He was such a wonderful man and will be missed by so many. Always so good to everyone especially his mother.
He brightened every room and heart he entered. I was seventeen when he was born, and enjoyed pretending he was mine. Rocking him and singing him made up songs.
May God rest his soul and give you all His peace.
Remember...death is just another step in the dance of life. Terry will live always in our hearts.
With love,
Aunt Vi
