Terry Mann Obituary

Terry Anthony Mann Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Mann," passed away peacefully after a long battle of health issues, on November 8, 2025, in Manchester, New Hampshire, at the age of 65. Born on July 7, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan, Terry's life was defined by love, laughter, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family and community.

Terry was born and raised in Detroit, where he attended Southeastern High School, graduating in 1978. Here he earned the nickname "frog" for his unbelievable vertical jump. He never let anyone forget that he also earned his title of all metro, all city, and all state. He later continued his basketball and academic career at Northwood University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in business in 1982. Here he was one of the all-time leading scorers, before the 3-point line was adopted into the NCAA.

His passion for the game, and pride for Detroit remained with him throughout his life, often sparking energetic conversations and heartfelt memories shared with those around him.

As a little brother to Yvonne, Testimonie, Reginald, and Rosalyn, Terry fell right in the middle. Following him are Derrick, Christopher, and Khalil. Through the many hardships these siblings faced, Terry was always there to take care of them all. When the time came to start his own family, he knew the choice he had to make.

After finding out that he and his wife Lydia Joyce Mann were pregnant, Terry decided to make the daring move out of Detroit to the neighborhood of Manchester, New Hampshire, where they settled and raised their one and only child, Terry Anthony Mann Jr., born July 12, 1983. Here, he started rebuilding his career where he was a chef for fifteen years to follow.

Terry's wife Lydia passed when TJ was seventeen. Terry Sr. lost his better half, and struggled to gain back his positivity.

His light was brought back when his first granddaughter was born in 2006- named Lydia Angel in remembrance of Terry's wife, and TJ's mother. His second granddaughter, Tianna, was born in 2008. From there, Terry began to rejoice and be a present grandfather in their lives. He became a devout member of the Hillside Middle School staff where he was able to connect with faculty, students, and his granddaughters as they passed through.

Due to health issues, Terry retired from the Manchester School District and decided to simply be there for his family. He went to every single sporting and academic event for his granddaughters, always there by his son's side. While fighting the battles of health, Terry was able to enjoy and observe the life he built.

Remaining to cherish Terry's memory are his son TJ and his wife Liz, his granddaughters Lydia and Tianna, grandson Patrick, and all of his remaining relatives of Detroit.

Services for Terry will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes, 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH 03104.
