Thomas Brewitt, most fondly known as "Tom," age 82, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2026, at Exeter Hospital.
He was born on January 13, 1944, in
Exeter, New Hampshire, the son of the late Richard Stiles Brewitt and Jeanette (Turcotte) Brewitt.
Tom was raised in
Epping, NH and was the older brother of John. He graduated from Exeter High School with the Class of 1962 before pursuing his passion for art at Dean Junior College in Franklin, Massachusetts. He later chose to follow the family tradition of funeral service, earning his Funeral Director's Certificate from the New England Institute in Kenmore Square, Boston, on March 18, 1966.
Tom dedicated his life's work to serving families through Brewitt Funeral Service, Inc., the family-owned funeral home that he co-owned with his brother. From the 1980s until his retirement on November 30, 2020, he served as President and Secretary of the business guiding countless families through some of life's most difficult moments and carrying on a family tradition of compassionate care that spanned generations.
In April 1966, Tom married the love of his life, Carole Cadorette. Together they raised their children, Tommy and Faith, at the Brewitt Funeral Home on Pine Street, where they lived for more than 50 years.
Tom and Carole shared a passion for travel, exploring approximately 70 countries throughout the world. As a family, they made life-long friends from strangers on almost every continent.
It is not exaggeration to say that Tom knew everybody. Whether a grieving family from Epping or a waiter in Prague, he had an extraordinary ability to remember people by name and recall how they were connected to one another, a gift that made everyone who met him feel personally known and cared for. His quick wit, warm personality and easy style helped him in his career and throughout his many travels leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
When not helping families ease the burden of grief or jet-setting around the globe, Tom found peace at his cherished camp on Bow Lake, dining out, and birdwatching.
A longtime member of the community, Tom was a former parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church and was active with the Order of the Eastern Star and the Exeter Historical Society.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Carole, on October 20, 2016.
He is survived by his son, Thomas John Brewitt and his wife, Kristen Lea Kruger Brewitt, and their son, Thomas Watson Brewitt; his daughter, Faith Brewitt and her husband, Michael Dean Chambers; his brother, John Brewitt Sr. and his wife, Gloria (Ferreira) Brewitt; and his nephews, Miguel Brewitt and John Brewitt Jr., along with many extended family members and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine Street,
Exeter, NH.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Exeter Cemetery, 49 Linden Street,
