NEHAWKA, Neb. – Clara I. Monroe, age 96 of Nehawka, Neb., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at the Prestige Care Center, Nebraska City, Neb. She was born Dec. 23, 1928 in Otway, Ohio, to the late Irene and Raymond Cox. She was married to Arlie (Jim) Monroe on May 14, 1947 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Clara began work at Bulldog Electric after her youngest son started kindergarten. She retired in 1992 after 36 years with the same company. Clara enjoyed camping, traveling, music, dancing, sewing, crocheting, and growing flowers (especially African Violets). She collected bells and helped her husband make and bake either pies or cakes weekly. She also enjoyed boating, golf, and bowling. Clara was an active member of American Legion Women's Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Moose Lodge.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arlie, and her son, Mike. She is survived by 2 sons, Gene Monroe of Nehawka, Neb., and Ray Monroe (Sherry Hutchison) of Lincoln, Neb.; 7 grandchildren, Angie, Andy, Alicia (Jamie), Austin (Lois), Travis (Marsha), Tara (Montel), and Tamara (Brandon); 14 great-grandchildren and 4-great-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at the WALTER AND LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Clara will be laid to rest next to Arlie at Oak Dale Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
A reception will be held at Moose Lodge 1215, located at 632 Mosgrove St., Urbana, Ohio, from 1-4 p.m. following the interment. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com.
