URBANA – Gilberto Cardosa, age 79 of Urbana, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2025. He was born on Feb. 17, 1946 in Weslaco, Texas, the son of the late Esteban and Nemesia (Guerra) Cardosa.
Gilberto is survived by his children, Lorenzo, Nina (Ronald Straight), Juanita, Kenny, and Allen Cardosa, grandchildren, Alec, Virginia Lynea Cardosa, Nicole Griegelis, Justin Cardosa, Jasmine Cardosa, Brooklyn Dusendang, Molly Dusendang, Mason Straight, and Elaine, great-grandchildren, Jaxon Phillips, Lovelace, Tisa Amelia, Rose Ahrens, Brendon Ryan Freeman Jr., and Charlotte Kay Sue Freeman, siblings, Steve (Ellen) Cardosa, Emma (Robert) Holbrook, Joe (Susan) Cardosa, Alex Cardosa, Eva Emans, and Juanita (Marty) Gosser and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gilbert selflessly served our nation in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, he worked for International Harvester from the time he was 18 until his retirement. In his free time, Gilbert enjoyed going to Mad River and fishing, hiking, having campfires, and just being outside. He also found joy in treasure hunting with his metal detector, restoring his Camaro and Scout, and jets/airplanes. Gilbert was a loving family man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 1-3 p.m. at the WALTER AND LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home.
Gilbert will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, Texas. Online condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com.
