Joshua Hahn Obituary

URBANA – Joshua "Josh" J. Hahn, 47 of Dublin, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Josh was born on Jan. 10, 1977 in Springfield, Ohio, to John M. and Anne M. (O'Brien) Hahn.

Josh was a graduate of Urbana High School (1995) before earning Bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science at Miami University (1999). He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Capital University Law School (2002) and joined the bar the same year.

Josh devoted his career to public sector service after becoming interested as a youth. He volunteered at 12 years old to support the campaign of now Governor Mike DeWine, later interning for the then-U.S. Senator in Washington, D.C., as an undergraduate. He began his career in the Taft Administration with time in the Governor's office and at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. He later worked as Deputy Chief of Staff for then-U.S. Senator Mike DeWine and afterwards lobbied for the County Commissioners Association of Ohio. Josh then served as Director of Special Counsel in the Ohio Attorney General's Office for 6 years. He most recently was the Assistant Director at the Ohio Department of Commerce.

Josh loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and was affectionately referred to as "Uncle Joshy" or "Uncle Buddy." He was unanimously declared "Greatest Uncle Ever." His nieces and nephews meant the world to him, and he loved them whole-heartedly. An ideal weekend for Josh was spent cheering for his nieces and nephews on any sports field or in the theatre.

Josh was an avid University of Notre Dame fan who lived for Fall Saturdays spent watching games with his family and friends. He enjoyed reading and would spend hours talking history and politics to anyone who would listen.

Josh did not know a stranger and anyone lucky enough to have met him or become his friend would agree he was a genuine person who prioritized kindness and loyalty over all else.

Josh is survived by his parents; brothers - Jeremy (Yemike) and Joel (Alli) Hahn; and nieces and nephews - Logan, Kellan, Caroline, Harper, and Kai.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024 in VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024 in St. Mary Catholic Church, 228 Washington Avenue, Urbana with Father Jarred Kohn, celebrant.

Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
