ST. PARIS - Ray D. Rader, age 72, of St. Paris, Ohio passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 in Springfield Regional Hospital.
Born on March 9, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, Ray was the son of the late Myron and Anna (Knisley) Rader.
He married Judy Longworth on June 23, 1969 and she survives. Together they raised two children, Myke (Brian) Cooney of St. Paris and Cale (Catherine) Rader of Kettering. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Arizona Melo, Alyson Taylor, Anthony Rader, Emilia Godale, Alexander Daniel and Christopher Rader and eight great-grandchildren, sister Jackalyn Ragan of Ocala, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two grandchildren, Sarah Marchal and Matthew Rader, preceded Ray in death.
Ray was a 1968 graduate of Northwestern Local High School. Ray's life consisted of service to family, community and nation including service in the Army, Army Reserves and Ohio National Guard from 1968 until 1994 and he worked for Ohio Edison until his retirement after 38 years of service. Along with being an active member of the Central Avenue Church of Christ, he rode with the Patriot Guard for 10 years and was a Charter member of the VFW 7645, VFW 5451 (Urbana) and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 97.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. in the Somerford Township Cemetery, Madison County, Ohio.
Memorial donations in Ray's name may be made to VVA, VFW Urbana or the Lung Association.
