Richard Hoy Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Richard Gregory Hoy, known affectionately as Rick, was born on Jan. 2, 1957 in Springfield, Ohio, and he peacefully departed this world on Oct. 10, 2025 at Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Rick dedicated his career to working in numerous greenhouses, where his passion for gardening blossomed, especially his love for flowers. His nurturing spirit extended beyond plants; he engaged with horses, alpacas, and goats, demonstrating a deep bond with nature and animals alike. Rick's culinary talents as an amazing cook and baker were particularly showcased during his time cooking for Girl Scout camp, where he created memories filled with warmth and joy for countless children. His family will miss his home-cooked Sunday dinners and desserts.

In his younger years, Rick embraced the great outdoors, often going camping with his family, but the beauty of nature was not his only passion. He found joy in attending festivals alongside his devoted friend Daniel Mattox, creating lasting memories that reflected his vibrant spirit. Rick's dedication to his family was evident through his proudest accomplishments, which included earning his Eagle Scout and restoring Amish buggies, demonstrating his commitment to craftsmanship and tradition.

Rick is survived by his father, Harry Allen Hoy; his brothers, Daniel Hoy and Michael (Lisa) Hoy; his sister, Deborah Linthicum; and his devoted friend, Daniel Mattox. He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews, Chad (Tara) Linthicum and Travis Hoy; his nieces, Erika Hoy, Tara (Rickey) Lowe, and a cherished circle of great-nieces and great-nephews: Eleanor, Piper, Joshua Ryder, Aubree, Aiden, Presley, and Charlee.

Rick's memory will be honored at JACKSON LYTLE AND LEWIS LIFE CELEBRATION CENTER in Springfield, Ohio. Visitation will take place on Oct. 20, 2025 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 2 p.m.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mable Jean Hoy, and his brother-in-law, Michael Linthicum, who, along with his nephew Joshua Linthicum and his dear fur companion Mr. Bear, welcomed him into peace beyond this life.

He touched many lives with his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering support, leaving behind a garden of memories that will continue to grow in the hearts of all who knew him. Rick's spirit will forever remain a part of the landscapes he loved, and his legacy is one of love, dedication, and joy.
