MECHANICSBURG – Ron Hixon, 87, of Mechanicsburg was reunited with the love of his life on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Emil and Nora (Beedy) Hixon. Ron married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Boggs) Hixon, in Liberty, Indiana in 1955. They spent the next 62 years facing life hand-in-hand.
Ron was a 1953 graduate of Mechanicsburg, where he earned the nickname "Little Dynamite" on the playing field. He attended Wittenberg University while working at William & Bailey's. His good friend, Bill Rutan, talked him into working at the Mechanicsburg Post Office and his career began. He retired as Postmaster in 1992.
His love of sports began at an early age and carried on throughout his life. He and Bill joined forces again and started the Mechanicsburg Little League. His favorite baseball team was the Boston Red Sox which he referred lovingly to as "those bums!" He played fast-pitch softball for years. He also loved working on his cars, with his favorite being his 1970 Opal GT. But his most special pastime was watching his grands and his great grands playing sports.
He will be remembered by his favorite saying, "We Shall See" and his favorite scripture, Psalm 46:10.
Ron is survived by his children, Lou Anne (Monty) Kerr, Kim (Tim) Patten, Kristi (Thad) Hartzler, Ross (Robin) Hixon; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jake) Reyher, Stephen Kerr, Ryan (Sarah) Kerr, Ronni (Adam) Conner, Tim (Beth) Patten, Jordan (Dane) Allard, Jansen Hartzler, Ross Hixon II, Amy Hixon and 15 great-grandchildren … and his "furever friend" Me-My.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Robert, and sisters, Mary Day and Barb Rodgers. He is survived by his brother James Hixon and sister Bonnie Dalton, his sister-in-law, Wanda Baldwin and brother-in-law, Wayne Boggs.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022 in SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
