Ruth Herford

MECHANICSBURG – Ruth Herford, 88, of Urbana, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Dec. 14, 2023 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.

Ruth was born on April 26, 1935, in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, the daughter of Albert Milton and Irma (Vanskiver) Pitzer. Ruth graduated from Mechanicsburg High School and retired from Perpetual Savings Bank after many years of service. Ruth was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Urbana. Ruth loved being outside and connecting with nature and enjoyed doing yard work. Family gatherings were special to Ruth. She enjoyed visiting with her sisters and helping on her sister's dairy farm.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Steve) Pond; sister, Irma Louise Gossett of Mechanicsburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Irma Pitzer; sisters, Mary Jane (Carl) Fox, Dorothy (Jim) McCoy, Martha (Larry) Eckurd; brothers-in-law, Richard Mohr, Robert Gossett; niece, Diane Mohr and nephew, David McCoy.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, Ohio. A memorial service will follow at noon with Pastor Mike Stewart officiating.

Inurnment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery.
