URBANA – Thomas T. Mackey, born on Oct. 14, 1933, was a beloved math teacher who dedicated his life to education and family. Over a 36-year career, he simplified Junior High Math with ease and continued teaching into his eighties at local colleges.
A devoted husband to the late Sally and father to Kevin (Kathy), Mark, Tina McSwain (Mark), and Timothy (Frances VanDyke), Thomas balanced family life like an expert equation. He cherished his grandchildren: Theron Mackey, Alexandra Mackey (Kyle Upchurch), Ryan McSwain (Marla), and Alexandria Mackey.
Thomas's legacy is one of kindness and generosity.
Contributions in his memory can be made to the Catharine Canestraro Mackey Scholarship at Peoples Savings Bank in Urbana, Ohio.
He demonstrated that life's challenges are best approached with love – and perhaps a touch of algebra!
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 in the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Tom was married to my sister Sally and has been like a brother to me all my life. He was a fine man, a great Father to his children and a wonderful Grandfather. He was a Man of God and his Faith was always unswerving. Active in every church he belonged to and respected and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. I will miss him and keep him in my heart forever. Thank you Urbana for welcoming him into your community for all these years. Tim, Tina, Kevin and Mark ....you and your families all made him proud. Love and prayers sent to all.
