Annie Cummings Obituary
HOLLAND PATENT, NY - Annie McDonald Cummings, 94, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on March 7, 2018.
She was born in Steuben, NY at the family homestead on April 7, 1923, a daughter of John and Stella Pedhyna Nalepa. She received her education at the country school in Steuben through the sixth grade. She then was sent to Remsen, where they built a school and finished her education. Annie married Joseph McDonald, at St. Leo's Church in Holland Patent, on November 15, 1941. The couple operated a farm on McDonald Road in Steuben until 1965 after which Annie went to work at Marcy Psychiatric Center. She retired after seventeen years of service. Joe died September 3, 1976. On May 15, 1993, Annie married James "Pete" Cummings at St. Leo's Church. Pete died October 5, 2015. She was a member of St. Leo's Altar Rosary, the XYZ Seniors, Remsen and the Steuben Seniors. She spent many hours tending to her flower beds and loved to give her plants away.
Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Roberts, Betty McDonald, both of Holland Patent and Wanda and Ray Paddock, Remsen; grandchildren, Bill and Sandy Paddock, Remsen, Scott and Jayne Paddock, Waterford ; great-grandchildren, Hailey Paddock, Rayne and Noah Ives, all of Remsen and Evan and Maddison Paddock, Waterford, NY. Annie was predeceased by a son, Dale; and a grandson, Bruce Paddock.
A special thanks to Nancy and Warren Perry, Bill and Ellie Mentor, Joyce Roadcap, Crowe Mullins, Dave Crane, Dave Smith and Dr. Ellwell for their many acts of kindness throughout the years. Thank you also to the many friends, too numerous to name.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Church, Holland Patent. Spring burial in Holland Patent Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Ackley-Mills Funeral Home, 9597 Main Street, Remsen.
